family or friends from out of town want to see the highlights of san francisco. but so many people and so little money.so we do the "bridge to bridge tour".
when you cross bridge exit at yerba buena, follow signs to treasure island.there you will come to a parking area along the shore.here you will get a fantastic view of both sides .the oakland side of the bridge,uc berkeley, treasure island boat dock and buildings.the sf side of bridge,sf skyline, coit tower, fishermans wharf, golden gate, angel island, alcatraz island, and to the right san rafael bridge. get back on the bay bridge to sf and exit towards fishermans wharf . drive along the embacadero, enjoy view and people watching.there are many stops along the way,but with a full car load of people we just keep driving until we pass fort mason, and pass crissy field towards golden gate.
as you head for the golden gate take the road to fort point, the fort under the golden gate that was built to protect the pacific coast during the civil war.this is a really fun and interesting place to visit. fun because you dont have to worry about a bad hair day this place will make it worst. its always really, really, really, windy and cold. get some wonderful beautiful views of sf skyline and pacific ocean.from here you start you way back to cross golden gate , by the way ,fee to enter fort point is by donation.
this is the beautiful view we see in all the movies when they pan in on the golden gate and sf skyline. if you want, the first parking area will give you a wonderful view.but if you keep driving to the top, to me the view only gets better.and if you really want to get adventurous, keep going up the road until you come to an one -way road that takes you around the mountain.such a beautiful ,beautiful sight. this road will take you pass the bonita light house and more beautiful views of the pacific ocean.if you take this route it 's a long drive back to a one lane tunnel where you wait for a green light to go through.drive towards golden gate bridge not marin county, pay toll for bridge.you are on highway 101. exit to lombard st and drive pass the exploriturm to lombard st.
just for the atmosphere and music ,burgers are a very filling meal good selection for everyones taste. nephew from out of town was so happy we didnt go to mickyDs because of our large group he was in seventh heaven.
After mels diner ,head up Lombard st, to of course, the famous crooked st.section. still keep going up lombard until you come to the Coit tower. wait your turn for a parking space, which is free, get a spot, park, and take in the views. inside the coit tower are beautiful murals of scenes of San Francisco and bay area. you can walk around tower and take pictures. the view from the parking lot ,to me ,is the same as from the top of the tower.but if you want to spend your money.by this time our driver is ready to get back home. so one last view of the beautiful panoramic sights, and off we go.
