My Top 10 daytrips from Frankfurt

Take a train from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof to Ruedesheim. Have a quick look at the city, but be careful - it is a tourist trap. Get on board of one of the boats that go downstream, preferably to St. Goar and book a round trip. On your journey there are numerous castles and a lot of scenic landscape. Highly recommended on a nice day - best season: end of summer / early autumn

One of the oldest German cities of Roman heritage. Nice old town and interesting sights and museums reflecting the Roman influence on Germany.

Also, a city with a long history and a nice old town. The Dome alone is worth a visit. This is the place the former German chancellor Helmut Kohl brought state guests to, because it was near his hometown and appeared to be attractive enough.

Really nice university town (almost as many students as inhabitants) dominated by a hill with a castle on top. Nice old town with numerous cafes and restaurants (the students need a place to drink, I guess) in small cobblestone streets.

In the northwest of Frankfurt, situated in the Taunus hills, this is a Roman fortification that can be visited. Recommended for historically interested people and people who are interested in hiking.
