  • 1. Hot-el-apartments Edinburgh Waterfront
    Hot-el-apartments Edinburgh Waterfront, Edinburgh, Scotland

A great place to set up base to explore Edinburgh. The views are amazing and its right by the water making it a peaceful place to start and end your day. Apartments are just that, big open plan kitchen, dining and living room which face a small balcony facing the water. Two big bedrooms and bathrooms one of them ensuite. The #10 bus stops right outside the apartments and drops you literally in the center of prince street and steps away from the waverly train station. ASDA also know as walmart is a 10minute walk away where you can purchase food and anything else you may need. If you are concerned about the check out and check in times here's my advice. Waverly trian station offers a secure place to store your bags at £7 each bag. I advise you grab a meal when your first arrive as there are NO RESTAURANTS by the apartments. All towels and sheet included and it is very clean.

  • 2. Edinburgh Castle
    Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR REAL RATES The main attraction in Edinburgh I have to say you need patience here. PLEASE PLEASE book you tickets in advance as the line is really really long. Tickets are not for a specific day or time so you have flexibility of when you go a huge plus. I did the audio tour but I must say it is not very well organised as others I have done. It's worth taking up the free live guide to tour the castle. There are two entrances to the honors of scotland. The main line that everyone joins and the one around the corner in the big court yard. It's worth a look but don't expect the same as what you will see in the tower of london. It's the history which makes them special. It does take a little while to get around the castle and unless you get there at the very beginning of the day it will be difficult to enjoy anything else that day. There is a demonstration of mideval weapons which happens around 12:30 just before the 1pm gun salute which is really really good. it is located through the small path to the left of the cafe they end the demo with enough time to get back around for the 1pm gun salute. Unless you plan to buy something specific to the castle (like a book on the Scotish honors) don't buy shortbread cookies or teas here the further down the hill you go the cheaper they are and the more of a selection you have. If you want to combine this with another attraction then take the number 35 bus which you can catch on the corner of the royal mile and north bridge/southbridge street to Holyroodhouse which is only 1hour and 30 minutes to do the tour. If you get there at 3pm you still have plenty of time to get round at a slow pace with the audio guide. It's worth the entrance fee if only to walk in the garden and see the ruins of the abbey.

  • 3. Edinburgh Zoo
    Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh, Scotland

if you get a sunny day in edinburgh it's worht spending in at the zoo especially if you have children with you. Take the # 12 bus on George street or just ask the bus driver if they stop they stop at the zoo. There are loads of talks and demonstration and you get a time schedule when you buy your ticket. The penguins and Kowala bear are worth the price of admission you get up really really close to both.

  • 4. Museum of Scotland
National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland

This museum is a must see as it as loads of objects of importance for Scotish history. Take a free tour of its highlights to summarie Scotish history and put it all together. There are lockers here (for £1 which your get back) to store your things while you enjoy the museum. the #35 bus goes right by.

  • 5. The World's end pub
    http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/pubguide/worldsend.htm...

Small pub with great food and friendly staff. Get there early or you'll be turned away even thought food service stops at 9pm get there by 7pm or you will get turned away. Not small child friend as there is no room for strollers and no high chairs.
They serve an appitizer portion of Haggis so you ca try it but not commit your whole meal to it. They also serve the most amazing burgers in town.

  • 6. Neanie Scott

If you want to find the cutiest gifts on the planet go here. They have teddies in tartans the perfect gift if you have children to buy for or anyone young at heart. You will not find these little stuffed animals in any other store on the royal mile. It's worth the visit just to meet Kathryn she's wonderful and has great tips for you to enjoy your stay a well. right next door is the christmas shop.
