1. A relaxing night at Greenbank Guest Cottages
Located on the bay facing Hamilton, these charming cottages are a world away from the crowded resort hotels. Make a pot of coffee and toast a bagel in your own kitchen, then sit on the patio and watch the cruise ships maneuver through the bay on their way to Hamilton harbor.
2. A quick dip at Horseshoe Beach
Throw on a bathing suit, hop on your scooter and head to Horseshoe Beach before everyone else does. You can rent chairs and umbrellas if you need to but you won't be staying all day. Grab a quick bite at the snack bar before heading out and don't leave without an ice cream cone!
3. The perfect beach for two
Hop on your scooter and drive up South Shore Rd. to Astwood Park. Walk over the hill and down some steps to the secluded Astwood Cove Beach. Hopefully you'll be the only ones at this secluded hideaway. Watch the water as this beach can disappear when the tides roll in! If you're lucky, you'll not see another human until you decide to leave this little piece of paradise.
Another scooter ride to the eastern end of the island and you're at Tobacco Bay Beach. No need to bring equipment with you, you rent snorkel gear here by the hour. Explore the reefs and funky fish in this protected bay with calm waters. Once you've had your fill, head back to your cozy cottage to clean up and relax before a night on the town.
5. Ferry to Hamilton
Just a two-minute walk from your cottage you'll grab the ferry at the Salt Kettle stop which will transport you through the beautiful bay into Hamilton. You don't have to pay until you get off at the Hamilton stop. There you can buy ferry tokens for your return trip as well.
6. Shopping in Hamilton
Before dinner do a little window shopping at the varied shops in downtown Hamilton. From t-shirts to Bermuda rum, you'll find plenty of gifts to bring home to your loved ones. If you don't want to carry packages many of the stores will ship merchandise home, and any alcohol you buy can be packaged and waiting for you to pick up at the airport on your day of departure.
7. Dinner at Lobster Pot
This is the place to go if you love seafood. The fish chowder with rum and sherry pepper sauce is a must. If you don't want lobster try a dish made with one of the local fish. Selections change based on what's fresh but the Wahoo is always a good choice.
8. After dinner drink
Cap off the night with a drink at one of the local pubs. A favorite local drink to try is the Dark and Stormy; a mix of Bermuda rum and ginger beer. Favorite spots for a nightcap include the Hog and Penny, a traditional English pub, Flannigan's for a taste of the Irish, or the Pickled Onion, which attracts a more sophisticated crowd.
9. Ferry back to your cottage
You've had fun-filled day and night in Bermuda and now it's time to catch the ferry back to Salt Kettle. As you sail out into the harbor you'll get a magnificent view of Hamilton all lit up. You may even pass one of the rowdy party boats on your way but before you know it you'll be back in your peaceful cottage dreaming of what you'll do on your next fabulous day in paradise.
