I was at a conference in Colorado Springs. The fam came along and toured around during the day.

  • 1. Garden of the Gods
Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, El Paso County

You could easily spend a couple of days hiking about in Garden of the Gods. We spent a couple of hours hiking and taking pictures and watching the rock climbers. We spent about 5 minutes at the very crowded visitor's center and shopped around at the trading post.

  • 2. Cave of the Winds
Cave of the Winds, Manitou Springs, El Paso County

The kids' first cave. I don't know if it is the best ever, but, you know, stalactites, stalagmites, all of that.

  • 3. Seven Falls
Seven Falls, Colorado Springs, El Paso County

Seven Falls was a bit expensive, but really beautiful. We went at night when they shine colored lights on the falls. It would be nice during the day too because there are hiking trails and nature walks.

  • 4. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs, El Paso County

A really great zoo. My kids fed the giraffes and the chipmunks and loved the bears.

  • 5. Manitou Springs
    Manitou Springs, El Paso County

A cute little town just next to Colorado Springs, we had a great time walking around the shopping areas and stopping for a bite to eat. We ate at PJ's Bistro at 819 Manitou Avenue. The pierogi were excellent, though the service was a bit slow.

  • 6. Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Canon City, Colorado

Back in my day, you paid a few bucks, walked across the bridge, took a few pictures, and left. Now, it costs over $20 to get in, so you feel obligated to ride the train and the tram and put the kids on the carousel. I really don't think it was worth over $100 for a family of five, but it is one of those things that you must see in your lifetime.
