How to make the most of 3 days in Paris

  • 1. Bike About Tours
    Bike About Tours, Paris, Ile-de-France

Christian and Paul show unique hidden gems of Paris. From courtyards, to famous graffitti, inspiration for Ratatouille, and the best ice cream. Tours are in small groups so easy to stay with the group and hear everything that is going on. Tour ends with recommendations for restaurants that are not well known to tourists. Easy ride, tour lasted longer than 3 hours but worth every minute...they stick to bike paths and one way streets so no worries.

  • 2. O Chateau - Wine Tasting
    O Chateau - Wine Tasting, Paris, Ile-de-France

Do not be alarmed when you are dropped in an alley when you go to the O Chateau Loft. The Grand 7 experience was 2 hours full of information about wines of France including 7 tastings. The sommelier was very laid back and had a great presence in the room. O Chateau is soon teaming up with Vedettes de Paris, for a wine tasting on the seine...sounds like a good match.

  • 3. Musee du Louvre
    Musee du Louvre, Paris, Ile-de-France

We did a quick visit that lasted two hours, but during that time we were able to hit the main exhibits: mona lisa (which was smaller than I had thought - and the area around it was very busy), venus de milo, winged victory, pyramid, and even the inspiration for the cover of the new Coldplay album. During this time we were also able to view other items as well but felt the two hours was enough for our purposes. The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays.

  • 4. Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel)
    Eiffel Tower, Paris, Ile-de-France

Long line-ups to get to the top, but for those who haven't been there worthwhile (afterall you cannot go to Paris without a visit to the eiffel tower). We walked the tower, it was a challenge...but got to the top quicker then waiting for an elevator. Signs at the base of the tower alert visitors to status of the different viewing areas (i.e. saturated with visitors). Would love to do this at night. For a great picture at the base of tower, stand close to the middle and set camera on timer place it on the ground facing up, it ends up with a really good shot.

  • 5. Arc de Triomphe
    Arc de Triomphe, Paris, Ile-de-France

Worthwhile for the view, but yet another climb. There is an elevator but it is only used for visitors who need assistance. The stairwell is quite tight. But the view from the top was great.

  • 6. Champs-Elysees
    Champs-Elysees, Paris, Ile-de-France

There are some great stores that are well priced...for the guys try Celio and for the girls Promod. Etam is a great lingerie/bathing suit store. Laduree is a great choice for dinner and macaroons for dessert. Although somewhat intimidating Louis Vitton has an amazing store, its nice to go in just to look around and admire the LV everywhere you turn and the ceiling on the 2nd floor was stunning. Paul a small bakery has great pastries and macaroons.

  • 7. Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre (Sacre-Coeur)
Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre (Sacre-Coeur), Paris, Ile-de-France

If you can do the stairs, it will get you to the top alot quicker. It is great for the unique view of Paris as well as the Basillica. You cannot take pictures inside the church. Lots of merchants trying to sell souvenirs and bracelets of some sort, steer clear it can be overwhelming at first but walk quick. At the top there are nice little cafes and even an art market where you can have your picture sketched. Found out after the fact that the bottom of the hill a few blocks away you are very close to the Moulin Rouge district (was within walking distance) - many strip clubs, sex shops etc. so maybe not something to do at night with small children.

  • 8. Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg)
    Luxembourg Gardens, Paris, Ile-de-France

Beautiful, worth a visit even if only for a couple of minutes. Lots of chairs for visitors to sit in.
