If you go, spend a little to hire a car (you'll make up the cost in taxi and bus fares), but bring a good map and a compass!

At first, stick to the ABC highway to get used to local driving customs and unique signage. Once you are comfortable, strike out on a tour of the island to see all she has to offer!

Take the ABC highway to the Airport and go north along the east coast of the island following signs to Sam Lord's Castle (stop by Cutter's along the way for a great snack). Once past SLC, follow signs to route 5 toward Ragged Point. There you'll have a great vista by the old lighthouse. Continue on east-coast road northwestward to Bathsheba and the incredible surf. Once past that, continue northwest through Barclay's Park to see the magnificent cliffs on the sandy ocean's edge. Continue on this road until you get to the fork with Rte 2. This is the heart of the "scotland district". Turn left on Rte 2 and follow the signs to Welchman Hall Gulley. This winding road will bring you through the rain forest toward the Flower Forest and past Mount Hillaby where, if lucky, you will see wild Green Monkeys playing around the road. Once you see signs for Higland Adventure, follow those to the summit next to Mount Hillaby for a great vista of the island. Continue west on this road until you get to signs pointing to Holetown. Follow signs until you get to roundabout intersecting Rte 2A. Proceed south on 2A until you get to the Golf Course, then turn right to go down hill toward sea (very beautiful road). Turn right on route 1 and travel north along Caribbean coast all the way up to St. Lucy. Follow signs to Archer's Bay and view cliffs on North Coast. Backtrack following signs to route 2A to Bridgetown for scenic drive on west coast. Once on ABC again, follow signs to Silver Sands to view South Point Lighthouse (only one still functioning). From here, follow signs back to ABC to complete circle. Takes about a day including stops for meals and photography.

All the dining guides I have found seem to contradict to a certain extent, but in general, you cannot go too wrong in Barbados, whether you go to Chefette and savor a Roti or you go to Cafe Luna or Pisces and drop a couple hundred bucks on great atmosphere and service (and unbelivably good food).
