  • 1. Chez Jerome
Chez Jerome, Hanga Roa, Easter Island

Excellent place to stay. Jerome gives small group, excellent tours. Chef Ricardo presents fine French cuisine with a Rapa Nui twist.

  • 2. Horse back riding

Ride a horse up to the highest point on the island, Maunga Terevaka, where you see ocean everywhere, 360 degrees.

  • 3. Hike the coastline

Certain areas are closed to all but hikers and those on horse back. Hiking from Ahu Tepeu to Anakena along the beautiful coastline takes 5-6 hours and you are able to explore ahus (platforms) with moai (statues) in abandoned villages that most others do not see.

  • 4. Tia Berthe empanadas

Try the tuna and onions one! Only order one, they're huge (and cheap)!

  • 5. Mota'Tao Cultural Show and dinner

Native Rapa Nui tell the story of their island in dance and then serve a delicious dinner cooked in an earthen pit beneath banana leaves.

  • 6. Visit Rano Raraku at sunrise, climb to and into the crater

This is the quarry from which the moai were carved. There are hundreds laying about in different stages of completion.
