Here's how to experience the real Munich only natives know about in an active day on the town.
The century-old Uhland is a cozy home base in Munich. In a residential area, the stately town mansion, built in the Art Nouveau style, stands in its own small garden, a 10-minute walk from the central station (Hauptbahnhof) and main city attractions. The Uhland is housed in a neo-Renaissance building, many rooms have small balconies, and its windows are filled with flower boxes of geraniums in summer.
Time your visit to the Marienplatz for the Glockenspiel Performance, which happens daily at 11:00,12:00,17:00 and 21:00. Marienplatz is a beautiful plaza with the ornate buildings of the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) & the Alter Rathausturm (Old Town Hall). The "New" Town Hall was built between 1867-1909. Beyond it, rising steeply to the sky, the distinctive copper onion domes of the Frauenkirche.
Emanating from Marienplatz are the pedestrian only main shopping streets of Kaufingerstrasse and Weinstrasse/Theatinerstrasse. This web of carfree streets offers enough to keep you occupied for the better part of the day with its many shops, street musicians; it's truly the place to start experiencing the sights and sounds of Munich.
If the colored circles on the bottom of the staircase are white, then you will be able to see as far as the Alps and all the way across Munich city with its many church towers, squares and parks.
Hundreds of open-air stalls make up the city's most prominent food market, a few minutes' walk south of the Marienplatz (there is no specific address, but the market sprawls over a wide area and can't be missed). Come here to experience a plethora of local and global delicacies.
Hilarious English speaking guides take you on a fun bike tour around Munich, hitting beer gardens, the Hofbrauhaus, parks and major sights along the way.
Still smiling from the great jokes that your bike guide was telling you while showing you some of the best Munich has to offer, it's time to indulge in more of Munich's culinary offerings. Right down the street from Mike's you can sit and relax at the Weisses Brauhaus.
If you're not exhausted from your active day on the town, try your luck at Munich's most prominent nightclub P1. Here you will party the night away with the model/celebrity crowd.
