Nine days in beautiful Costa Rica at luxury hotels and adventurous sightseeing!
Peace Lodge was so beautiful. We booked a deluxe room, which was cozy and romantic. Tip - turn on the dehumidifier right away! Even being from Florida it was humid in the rainforest and it really helped.
We booked all of our excursions through the Peace Lodge and everything went very smoothly. We took a tour of the Poas Volcano and Doka Coffee plantation, which I highly recommend. The horseback riding and rafting trip were both amazing but be sure not to wear any jewelry! My new husband lost his wedding band in the river!
We took the tour of the grounds one day and were so happy to do so. With the tour, you get the 'behind the scenes' look at everything, get to hold new butterflies, see special animals and more. The biggest plus was our guide was there to take pictures for us!
The trout bar was under construction when we were there, but the restaurant was yummy. The food was very good, I had stomach problems while in Costa Rica but that was me and not the food - my husband was fine the entire trip.
We stayed three nights and four days (the first and last day being 1/2 days), which was a perfect amount of time.
The Poas Volcano is amazing! Just remember that if its cloudy, you will have to wait at the volcano and cross your fingers to see it. We got there and waited about 30-45 minutes but then the clouds swept away and viola!
Coffee Plantation Tour - this was very interesting. I have so much respect now for how coffee beans are grown and picked. The Doka Estate is a wet mill, that the family keeps running as a museum of sorts.
Great trip, good coffee (great buys!)
Horse Back Riding followed by a rafting trip...This was so much fun! The horses are average size and we had so much fun. The rafting trip was a good time but again, no jewelry!
Local Costa Rican Airline - Be warned. I had read a lot of great feedback about nature air prior to booking and even if I go back I will never rent a car and drive. BUT - Nature Air is hardly ever on time and flights can be cancelled at a whim due to weather. Honestly, my husband and I regretted the 'great' idea we had of taking the nature air flights between our locations. In the future, we will just hire a car. For instance, when going from Peace Lodge to Arenal we sat in the airport from 830 - 2 PM and then they came out and admitted no flights. We then had to force the airline to help us obtain ground transportation for the four hour drive to Arenal. Worse scenario was that Peace Lodge was only 2 1/2 hours from Arenal to begin with (so drive from there to Arenal if that is your trip, don't fly).
When we went from Arenal to Tamarindo, the flight was a few hours delayed and then my motion sickness kicked in - if you have any type of motion sickness remember your medicine!!
If you actually get on a flight, they are professional and simple. But the hassle isn't worth it in my opinion. Just make sure you have no plans all day that day if you take a flight - just to be safe!
Arenal Kioro is so amazingly beautiful! The hotel is lovely. We stayed on the top floor in the building furthest from the lobby and it was private and romantic.
The restaurant at the hotel was good and service was on par.
We did visit the spa for a couples massage which was very relaxing. I definitely recommend the spa!
Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time here. When we went to the Tabacon Hot Springs a lot of the guests were raving about how great it was. It definitely does not have the views that Arenal Kioro does but those springs are amazing!
The first thing I have to say about the Sky Trek is do not wear any clothing that you wouldn't mind throwing out after.
This was an amazing, once in a life time activity - even with my intense fear of heights. The weather was rainy and they spray chain oil on the lines before you go - which means it gets all over you and your clothes (and doesn't come out!) There is an option to wear their plastic jackets - take them up on it!
This operation was very safe, professional and I would hold my breath and do it again in a minute!
Amazing, amazing, amazing. We did the evening package with dinner. The springs were full but not over crowded. The buffet was delicious. A must see!
Los Altos de Eros is the most amazing place on Earth! The inn is so beautiful, the staff is wonderful, I lived in the spa. Sigh.
While at the inn, we relaxed, enjoyed the Sunset Massage and Dinner in the spa. Yum! I highly recommend this if you are on a romantic vacation or your honeymoon. The beef tenderloin was out of this world!
We took an ATV tour which was so much fun! We got to drive through a ton of beaches and see the area and it was a lot of fun!
We went to dinner one night in town to Carolina's. I ended up with a migraine which wasn't good but brought the food back and had it for lunch the next day - delicious!
We were going to take the sailing trip but I was loving the inn so much that we cancelled it to just lounge - which I highly recommend.
I couldn't grasp the fact that you really don't have to decide until the day before you go what you are going to do here, but its so true! I actually regretted making plans for each day because I pretty much ended up cancelling them all!
