We visited Rome twice this year, once in April and again in October, based on these visits here are the things i recommend

1. St. Peter's Basilica (Basilica di San Pietro)
|

| You have to go here if you are in Rome, there is a lot to do within the church itself, my Mum described it as "churches within a church" The dress code is strict so no exposed knees or shoulders |

2. Roman Forum (Foro Romano)
|
|
| This was the centre of Ancient Roman life, a large collection of ruins, some in better states than others, including the Temple Of The Vestel Virgins, worth a guided tour as otherwise it can be overwhelming |
|
|
3. Baths of Caracalla (Terme di Caracalla)
|
|
| About a 10min walk from Circo Massimo station, these ruins of the ancient roman baths are beautiful, the area is so peaceful and you could easily spend a good few hours there on a nice day |

4. Colloseum
|
|
| You simply CANT go to Rome without visiting this place, i have been twice and it stills holds me in awe. Take a guided tour to get in quicker. Many guides will approach you outside, take a tour with one of them and you skip the line. Their tour will also include a tour of the Palatine Hill. BEWARE of the guys dressed as Roman soldiers, they will pose for photos with you then ask for 10 euros a pic! |

6. St. Peter in Chains (San Pietro in Vincoli)
|
|
| Home of the breathtaking Michaelangelo Statue of the seated Moses and the chains which supposedly held St Peter inprisoned (hence the name of the church) Another free admission visit :) |

7. Hard Rock Cafe Rome
|
|
| If italian food isnt really your thing, visit the Hard Rock Cafe, great food at a reasonable price, awesome atmosphere and you can always pick up your souvenir tshirt |

8. Casa Vacanze Castel Sant'Angelo
|
|
| Tomb Of the emperor Hadrian, amazing views from the top, and a nice little cafe up there too |

9. Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi)
|
|
| Breathtaking work of art. The fountain is especially beautiful at night when it is all lit up, throw a coin into the fountain to ensure your return to the eternal city |
|

10. San Giovanni in Laterano (Basilica di San Giovanni)
|
|
| The Cathedral of the city of Rome, whilst you are there visit the HOly Staircase opposite, these stairs were supposedly taken from the house of Pontius Pilate and Jesus supposedly walked up them. well worth a visit especially as it is FREE |

| Take a guided tour as this will skip the 2 hour queues and you will also appreciate what you are looking at more. The cistine Chapel is the grand finale and worth the entrance fee alone - a Masterpiece! |
