The Best of Norway

This is the Brendan/Trafalgar Trip I took to Norway. It includes the popular Norway in a Nutshell and is the most beautiful and satisfying trip I have taken to date.

| A Must See sculpture garden near Oslo, Norway. It is an interesting experience and gives you a different perspective on life. Very well done. |

2. Akershus Castle and Fortress (Akershus Slott og Festning)

| Great castle/fort to visit in Oslo. Wonderful view of the wharf, and lovely landscaping. |

In traveling through Hardanger, stop at the little restaurant in Halne Fjellstova. The scenery is incredible and very different from anything you would see elsewhere. Also, the Sammi People, a nomadic group, live here for certain times of the year before they go back to Northern Norway.
Further down is a waterfall called Voringfoss. It is spectacular and a must see if you are passing through. |

OMG!!!!! MUST SEE! Great for a honeymoon, vacation, whatever. This is the most incredible place I have ever visited. Not only is the hotel amazing with every room having a different theme (and seeming to go on forever), but the scenery and landscaping are the most incredible... You can't put it into words, but none of us wanted to leave. My favorite line that I wrote in my journal about the morning we were going to leave the hotel was: "I woke up and went outside. The scenery had changed drastically. There were low lying clouds just hanging above the water and the mountain tops were drizzled in pink sun." That should give you an idea of what it was like. |

5. Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf
|
|
| Bergen, Norway is my favorite town. It is a true fishing village with a fish market, beautiful scenery, lots of art (sculptures, paintings, etc). I really fell in love with Bergen. While you're there, take a look at Bryggen. It is the oldest part of the city with the line of buildings with pointed roofs. It has restaurants and shops, really nice. Oh, and if you are a fish and chips type of person and the cart at the fish market is closed (like it was for us), then head over to Steakers Restaurant and order it there. It was the BEST fish and chips I have ever had the pleasure of digesting. hehe. Also, while you are in Bergen, head over to the Floibanen. It is a ... tram... that you take to the top of Bergen for a spectacular view of the city. |

6. Sognefjord
|
|
| Ok, Sognefjord is where "Norway In a Nutshell" is held. This is a spectacular side trip that shows you the best of what Norway has to offer. It includes a train ride with incredible scenerey and a stop at a huge, breathtaking waterfall. The next part of the trip is a boat tour down the fjords, with single houses nestled along the fjord. A true fairytale experience. |

7. Briksdal Glacier
|
|
| This was the best part of the trip for me. It was incredible. You could not walk on this glacier, it was only a finger, but what an amazing experience. First we took a buggy most of the way up the mountain (thank god! because others were walking up), then we walked the rest of the way up. The scenery was incredible with mountains in the background, polished boulders to the side, trees, moss, and the bluest water you have ever seen. It was breathtaking. This was one part of the trip that I really tried to "soak" in as much as I could, and is still my favorite part of the trip. |

We took a cruise along the Geirangerfjords. This was very comparable to the cruise in "Norway in a Nutshell", and I think I actually liked this one better. Absolutely amazing.
Geirganger the village is as quaint as they come. A school, a tiny mart, some restaurants and shops (due to cruise ships coming there once in a while), etc. It had a beautiful waterfall nestled along side and a herd of sheep that were very sociable. Oh, and did I mention the incredible scenery? lol. |

| Lom is home to a Stave Kirke (church) from the days of the Pagan/Christian merging. It is beautiful and has a short presentation given that tells you the history of the church. |

| Just to make the count, 10, I added Lillehammer. I didn't care for it much, but it had its perks. It had a quaint shopping area, and of course the main attraction was all the Olympic museums, arenas, etc. It is worth doing once. |
