Asilomar is like staying in an old time lodge. It is beautifully located beside the state beach. We frequently see racoon, deer and even a fox! The tide pools are some of the most pristine in California and are well worth the trip. Wondering down from your rustic room at Asilomar and you have a holiday without ever getting in a car. The facility has all sorts of rooms, occasional deals and a pool. All rooms include a hearty breakfast at large tables with other diners. Our last table had a family from Britain, two young italians and a lot of Australians.
2. Fishwife at Asilomar Beach
The Fishwife is walking distance from Asilomar Conference Grounds. This caribean inspired restaurant showcases local seafood and freshest ingredients from the Salinas Valley. Always busy, be sure to make a reservation. This is a family restaurant, yet perfect for a couple wishing a more romantic evening. The walk back to Asilomar at night is wonderful.
The main site in the region this very regional Aquarium is exciting to all ages. Be sure to check out the website before you travel. Buying your tickets ahead of time (if you don't have a ticket/hotel package) saves a lot of time. For families, think about membership. For $120/year you have multiple entry and receive educational info to keep your children in touch all year. The benefit of membership not only allows entry into special nights and activities, but during your visit you can come and go at leisure. Having your visit spread over 2 days will keep every one fresh and excited.
