From round-the-clock excitement of tribal casinos to the beautiful beaches of Long Island Sound, Connecticut has plenty to offer visitors year round.
A beautiful beach on Long Island Sound, tons of hiking trails and plenty of picnic areas make this State Park a winner. Once you've had enough sun you can chill out under a shady tree, go fishing or walk through the grand pavilion. Lifeguards, bathrooms and a snack bar are included!
Try your hand at blackjack, craps or one of the hundreds of slot machines. If you don't like to gamble there's a movie theater, jazz club and many scheduled concerts and performances by big named entertainers. Several restaurant choices in all budgets, three hotels and round-the-clock fun make this casino a winner.
You'll have to wait in line but it's worth it. Some of the best pizza you'll ever have, this New Haven legend has been drawing crowds for years. It's not much to look at but the pizza is divine. Try the special white clam pizza, it's a winner.
This home of William Gillette, the once famous actor and director, is a pleasure to explore. Take the guided tour which will reveal some mysteries of this amazing home. Creative touches include intricately carved wooden doors and a hidden bar. Don't forget to spend some time exploring the magnificent grounds as well.
They claim to have invented the hamburger here and they only serve them up on toasted white bread with a cheese, onions or tomato. Burgers are grilled upright in old-fashioned broilers. They aren't big on condiments here so don't you dare ask for ketchup!
Explore the interesting shops and restaurants. You'll find the original Mystic Pizza here, the one made famous in the movie. Several times during the day the drawbridge is raised to let ships pass through. It backs up traffic but it's fun if you're a pedestrian and can watch. Grab an ice cream cone and enjoy the show.
This Ivy League school is fun to visit, even if you're not a student. Take a guided walking tour of the campus or just explore on your own. There are museums to occupy your time and if you can get tickets to a Yale football game you're in for a treat!
Productions run throughout the year but this theater is a popular summer destination. Famous actors often grace the stage, produce or direct the performances. Joanne Woodward is on the board of directors and Paul Newman has been known to show his face from time to time.
Connecticut's second casino doesn't play second fiddle to Foxwoods. This one is much more attractive and offers more fun for the non-gambler. Plenty of shops and restaurants will give you something else to do with your money. The arena holds many sporting and concert events. Have a drink by the waterfall bar and soak it all in.
Delicious pastries and homemade chocolates await once you step through the front door. A cup of rich, Belgian hot chocolate and a couple of Madeleines make the perfect autumn breakfast.
