  • 1. Catania
    Catania, Province of Catania

    Catania is the second largest city in Sicily, a major transport hub and university city.

    How to get get in:
    * By Plane
    Catania has the main airport for Sicily (Vincenzo Bellini)

    * By Bus
    Frequent buses run to Taormina, Messina, Enna, Caltanissetta & Syracuse. The main bus station is close to the railway station

    * By Train
    Trains come from from Messina and Syracuse

    How to Get around
    It is most convenient just to walk around.

    Things to See
    * "U Liotru", the Elephant statue symbol of Catania
    * The Piazza del Duomo
    * The Cathedral (Duomo)
    * The fish markets
    * Via Etnea - the main shopping street

  • 2. Piazza Armerina
    Piazza Armerina, Province of Enna

    Piazza Armerina is a town best known for Roman Mosaics of the Villa Romana di Casale.

    The large Roman Villa is the remains of a large number of rooms covered by a huge canopy to protect the numerous elaborate mosaics which are much more impressive than those at Pompeii.

  • 3. Cefalu
    Cefalu, Province of Palermo

    Cefalù is a fishing village and popular beach resort on the north coast of Sicily close to Palermo.

    Things to visit
    * The Cathedral (Duomo) dominates the centre of town.
    * Wander around the old town streets.
    * Visit the harbour - Piazza Marina.
    * Relax on the beach

    * Climb The Rock (La Rocca) for great views of the red-roofed town and beautiful bay area as well as a visit to Diana's Temple (Tempio di Diana).

    Palermo, Province of Palermo

    Palermo is the capital of Sicily, located on the north coast of the island.

    Things to see
    * Mosaic in Monreale Cathedral
    * The Quattro Canti - the symbolic crossroads at the old centre of the city
    * The Archaeological Museum
    * The Catacombe dei Cappuccini
    * The Palazzo dei Normanni.
    * The 'street markets', especially near the Piazza del Carmine and Vucciria.
    * The Piazza Pretoria
    * The Gesu Church
    * Cappella Palatina

  • 5. Monreale Duomo
    Cathedral of Monreale, Monreale, Province of Palermo

    Monreale - a village/suburb 8 km west of Palermo, sitting on the hill with a great view back towards the city and the sea. Be sure to visit the Duomo (Cathedral) and it's cloisters too.

    Selinunte, Sicily, Italy

    Selinunte is a village on the south coast of Sicily most famous for the neighbouring ruins of the Greek city of Selinus.

    The Selnius complex is large and impressive, with excellent views over the coastline beyond.

    There are three temples: one imposingly re-erected, one partially rebuilt and one a huge pile of stone columns and lintels.

    Agrigento, Province of Agrigento

    Agrigento is a city on the south coast of Sicily famous for its Greek Valley of Temples

    Stretching along a ridge to the south of the city are a string of five Greek temples, a sight worthy of comparison to the Acropolis itself in Athens.

    * The first temple east of the entrance is the Tempio di Ercole
    * Tempio della Concordia
    * Tempio di Giunone
    * Tempio di Giove
    * Tempio di Dioscure.

  • 9. Caltagirone
    Ceramiche Artistiche Sammartino e Delfino Caltagirone, Caltagirone, Province of Catania

    Caltagirone is a town most famous for it's ceramics.

    Things to see:
    * La Scala - the famous 142 step staircase. Each stair is decorated with different ceramic tiles
    * St Francis Bridge (Ponte San Francesco)

    Thing to visit:

    * Apollo temple
    * The Old town on Ortygia island
    * The Cathedral

    This is the tallest volcano of Europe and the second most active volcano of the World.

    There are 2 ways to get around on Mount Etna:

    1) From Rifugio Sapienza (Etna south)
    2) From Piano Provenzana (Etna north)

    Taormina is a hillside town on the east coast of Sicily. It's also called the Mediterranena pearl.
