Want to go swimming into the Baltic Sea ? This is the place to stay. Private beach, 4 saunas, large fitness center. Best in August during crayfish season.
The name translates into Fisherman's hut. To good to be just a cafetria the place was developedinto a hotel complex around 1970.
20 min west to Nokia, 20 min east to central Helsinki. Takes a bit longer by tram #4. |

Was the #2 place in the 80's and later. Named after Marshall Mannerheim, the first president of the country and situated opposite Stockmann departman store and Alaxander shopping street - the very hub of Helsinki.
Also part of Scandic group, now belonging to Hilton's. |

My favourite place to stay. Modern servicve in a place of history, right opposite Helsinki's cultural, business and shopping world. Just cross the strret to the bus station, the railway station and the Nationa Assembly.
Try it by just sippimng tea in the coffee shop with its neo-classical archiitecture. If yo stay choose between 5 different types of pillows.
Take it when getting a preferred rate from international reservation sites (only a few have an adequate allotment) |

Ever slept in a department store. Well it is situated below your room, the hotel uses only a few of the upper levels of the combined building. Centrally located next to busstation and railway station. |

This hotel is in Espoo, the twin city of Helsinki. Tapiola is a architectural project dating back to 1970 combing a park secenery near the sea with a new residential area in dordic style and enough businesses for the people toliev and work there at the same time.
Walk to Nokia HQ within 5 min, travel by bus to Helsinkii Central Station within 30 min. |

One of my favourite party places back in student's time. Granite castle from 1900 (in national romantic style).
Was the residence of Helsinki Student's Union untill 1990 and then transformed into a hotel with historical ambiance. Belongs to same group as Palace hotel. |

15. Holiday Inn Helsinki (Trade Fair)
|
Ave price:
$217

Close to Helsinki Trade Fair and that is it. Best go by train from Pasila to the Main Railway Station.
Want to be more in the center ? There is another Holiday Inn "behind" the Railway Station, close to National Assembly and Mannerheim Boulevard. |
|
|
16. The Railway Station (Rautatieasema)
|
|
Dont be confused. This is no hotel, jsut the railway station, but in its way a pice of art by the famous Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, who created also architectural
masterpieces later in America.
Take a look at the picture above. Did Saarinen like to show four goalkeepers (Soccer EM 2016 in Finland ?) or do the guys just hold the world in their arms ? Or are this the 4 leading UMTS networks of the world ? |
|
|
17. Stockmann's Department Store
|
|
Have found a decision on where to sleep this night ? The go shopping in one of the best department stores of Europe, well known from Moscow to Marbella.
It's THE meeting place of Helsinki people for an afternoon chat or before going to the theatre in the evening. |
