A day in Montreal.
Stay in the Latin Quarter around the University of Quebec @ Montreal(UQAM). It's right on the train line, and it's in the middle of the action. Excellent food, Old Montreal, Centre-Ville, the biosphere & Olympic Stadium are either an easy walk or a quick train ride away.
On the SW corner of Ste.Catherine's & St. Denis. This is a delicious way to start your day.
Walk or ride in horse drawn carriage around this beautfiul, cobblestoned replica of a European city. Don't forget to enjoy the old Port & the water on the far south. The view is terrific in the early morning(and late evening!) This can easily be a full morning!
Walk slightly north to Rue Notre Dame. Turn left(West) on Notre Dame & walk towards the cathedral towers you see peeking over the buildings. Wow at this amazingly beautiful cathedral - both inside and out. To get the full cathedral + 1 or 2 in the picture check out the postcards being sold in the Plaza (Place d'Armes) across the street.
Continue your walk west on Rue St. Jacques(opposite side of the Place d'Armes across from the Cathedral) to Rue University. Lunch at Le Belvedere in the Hilton Bonaventure. You can enjoy a french buffet or order from the menu. Perfect for a rest & light meal.
After lunch shop on Rue Ste. Catherine's to update your wardrobe with European fashions. There are several complexes with terrific stores for both men and women. Train it back to your hotel with your finds. The Subway is located just north of Ste. Catherine's on Maisonneuve.
Take an afternoon nap with the windows open to enjoy the sounds of students, birds, & cars running below.
Then begin your evening with a meal in the Latin Quarter. EVERY food you could want from a french styled sandwich to a terrific and lite Vietnamese Pho dinner can be found between Rue Sherbrooke & Ste. Catherine's on St. Denis.
The biosphere, Olympic Stadium & Mont Royal can wait for tomorrow! Enjoy a club, one of the many 'cinemas', or just the variety of people on the street before heading back to the hotel for a little nitelife of your own!
