Wine Festival in Paso Robles

May 3, 2006  Wine club member of four Paso wineries, as well as the Wine Wrangler wine club, which features various Paso wines; regular visitor.

The festival in the park (always the third Saturday in May) is a great way to taste from a lot of the fantastic wineries in the area without driving to each one (although we enjoy that). There are some great b&b's in the area, lots of fun dinners/events at the wineries. It is a really fun event, not at all stuffy.

Great town for wine tasting. Pretty town, picturesque landscapes, really nice people (the REAL California)... There are a number of fantastic restaurants, and a huge number of wineries to explore.

Great French restaurant, walking distance to Paso Robles Inn

  • 3. Oak Hill Manor

Wonderful b&b; picturesque, gourmet breakfast, wonderful suites. The grounds are lovely, and the Alpine suite has a private deck, a jetted tub and dual fireplace. Great for a romantic getaway...

  • 4. Clautiere Winery

Great wines; some fantastic blends. Fun tasting room with crazy wigs to try on.

  • 5. Tobin James Cellars
Tobin James Cellars, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County

Really fun tasting room with a western flair. Biggest wine club membership in U.S.

  • 6. Eberle Winery
Eberle Winery, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County

Fantastic wines. Lots of fun events at winery including monthly guest chef dinners. Very pretty views of vineyards, picnic area. We are wine club members and attend the black tie dinner in December every year. Beautiful views and the tour of the manmade caves are fun. Great wines, including the very tasty and inexpensive Full Boar Red, which sells out quickly every year. Their syrahs and zin are my favorites, and I really like their new rose for a light summer drink.

  • 7. Silver Horse Winery

Fantastic winery in nearby San Miguel. The easiest way to get there is take Airport Road north from the 46 east, and follow the signs. The winemaker, Stephen Kroener, is making some amazing blends (my personal favorite is the Carame, a petite Verdot/Cabernet blend). We are wine club members of this boutique winery that only produces about 500 cases a year. It has one of the prettiest tasting rooms in the Paso area, and everyone is friendly and fun. Come here and taste their amazing wines and play some horseshoes or bocce ball on the lovely grounds.

  • 8. Opolo Winery

We are wine club members of this winery, also. They have some fantastic barbecues along with some great wines (current favorites are the Rhapsody, and the Montagna Mare).

  • 9. Hearst Castle
Hearst Castle, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo County

A must-see for anyone interested in California history, architecture and/or the movie Citizen Kane. The place is clearly over-the-top, but also truly lovely.
