  • 1. The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa
The Omni Grove Park Inn, Asheville

I like this most in the winter. just thinking about all of the gingerbread houses (seen on the today show every christmas morning!) and decorations and hot chocolate...hmm. And to top it all off the resort is even haunted! Ask about the Pink Lady.

  • 2. Tupelo Honey Cafe
    Tupelo Honey Cafe, Asheville

Get the sweet potato pancakes! Great southern cooking and amazing breakfast.

  • 3. Sliding Rock
Sliding Rock, Pisgah Forest, North Carolina

Not for the faint of heart!! This is just what its name implies...It is a huge slide that is purely a large rock with water flowing over it. The all natural alternative to a water park!

  • 4. Warren Wilson College

Princeton Review's #1 college for Reefer Madness and College Most Nostalgic for Bill Clinton. But even if you are conservative visit this beautiful college. There is an easy trail equipped with a river, water holes, and a rope swing! Also, there is contra-dancing every thursday night.

  • 5. Blue Ridge Parkway
    Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville

This is a must for fall especially. Just drive and stop at look out points at your leisure...drive to craggy gardens and hike it if you can! Also check out the moderate mountains-to-sea trail. Its a great trail to jog.

  • 6. Biltmore Village

A very quaint area of asheville. Don't miss Corner Kitchen, Chelsea's Tea Room, and the Mcdonalds that was featured on the travel channel (it's not your average mcdonalds).

  • 7. Fontana Lake
Fontana Lake, North Carolina, United States

Visit the dam, go hiking, and even take a ride on a speedboat!

  • 8. Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co.
Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co., Asheville

Watch a movie for two dollars in a couch with some delicious (and also cheap) pizza and breadsticks.

  • 9. Biltmore House

As a local, I never go here anymore, but for a first-time visitor it is a must-see. Suck up the high entrance fee and the castle will take your breath away...I promise. Enjoy the gardens as well.

  • 10. Chimney Rock
    Chimney Rock, North Carolina

If you visit Chimney Rock you might as well visit Lake Lure...they are both must-do's for first-time visitors and are located very close to each other. Chimney Rock is a beautiful hike featuring an amazing waterfall.

  • 11. Lake Lure
    Lake Lure

A gorgeous lake with a beach, activities for children such as bumper boats, and many boat tours. Don't miss the sunset cruise!

  • 12. Downtown Asheville

Please, PLEASE, do not come to asheville without strolling through the unique downtown area and taking in all asheville has to offer. And best of all, it's free! Don't miss the Pritchard Park friday night drum circle, many art galleries, the urban trail, the vance monument, the health adventure (only if you have kids), wall street and the iron building, climbax on wall street (great for older kids), st. lawrence basillica, malaprop's bookstore....the list goes on and on. And top of your night with a dessert and coffee at old europe.
