Visiting Orlando is more than theme parks and Mickey Mouse ears....there are fun things to do and see outside of the crazy bustle of kiddie land!
The BEST steak I've ever eaten. It is a mid price range dining option. For my husband and I (drinks, entrees, and a shared dessert) it was about 175.00
This was a GREAT show! A short option for a Cirque show - only an hour and 30 mins. Pay for the more spendy tickets because, since this is in a tourist town, when you sit in the "cheap" seats - you are amongst people who you have no idea how they had the money to go to a show like this!
It was a great, short show. The arena is located right at the end of Downtown Disney so you can get dinner before and drinks afterwards right on one spot. Taxis are all over so you have everything you would need!
A great, short drive from Orlando and a fantastic beach. There is a lot of construction going on right now (6/2007) but if you go mid-week, you won't have ANY trouble finding a place to park right ON the beach. Very clean and WARM water - great swimming anytime!
4. Cocoa Beach
About an hour's drive from Orlando (and $2.75 in tolls total), this beach is BEAUTIFUL. The town is gorgeous and if you continue on past the "resorty" part of town and go to the Airforce Base beaches, you can park for free and enjoy a local's perspective: wide open sugar white sand without the crowding of the resorts!
5. Daytona Beach
About 1 hour from Orlando, this town is known for the parties it hosts throughout the year but on an off week - you'll find a very laid back area with VERY affordable accomodations. The beach is a nice soft slope and you can drive on them during daylight hours for a nominal fee (3-5.00). Tons of touristy shops and things to keep you busy for days or just an afternoon if you are selective.
This is right near Daytona Beach (in fact, you can't tell where Daytona ends and Ormond begins). This is a great dining option. We had all you can eat King Crab for 27.00. Their margaritas are STRONG and cheap (5.50). Ask for a to go cup and then order another margarita and you'll have a coy way to take your drink on the beach for the evening sun!
House of blues is located at the end of Downtown Disney and has GREAT margaritas at the outside bar! The food is great and mostly affordable. The Filet is fantastic. If you are able to go on a night where there is a show - definitely GO! HOB is an awesome venue!
This is a great "southern" place for breakfast. If you want some southern style grits and great eggs and a waffle or two - this is your place. Get a HUGE breakfast 24 hours a day for under 9 bux. They also have GREAT coffee and famous hashbrowns (they are stuffed, smothered, covered, etc).
