I haven't been too many places compared to some, but these Islands have been highlights of my travel career - everybody should see them at least once.
One of the most mysterious places in the world. It's out of the way, it's hard to get to, but the payoff is visiting a place you will never forget. Do yourself a favour and head there now.
Located about 350 miles off the coast of eastern Australia, few people are even aware it exists. You won't find big resorts, you won't find a crazy night life, but you will find a place where most people get around on bicycles, and you can walk from one end of the island to another in a day. Hiking trails, a handful of good restaurants and a liquor store - what else do you need?
Where every good honeymooner goes to honeymoon - your jaw will drop the first time you set eyes on lagoon. Your hotel transport will be a boat, and you'll spend your days lazing in your overwater bungalow while the gentle waves of the lagoon reflect the cascade of light. Don't go by yourself!
It's a hassle to get to Aitutaki, but you'll never forget the experience. It's an hour flight north of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The gentle and hospitable way of the polynesians ensure you will be welcome and your stay will be unforgettable. A couple of luxury resorts sit on the edge of the ice-blue lagoon - definitely stay at one of them.
It's big, it's got trees, and it's got a diverse cross section of wildlife that will blow your mind. Head out to Tofino, where art galleries and fudge shops dot the streets. Charter a float plane and go whale watching. Head down to Victoria for high tea at the Empress - there's enough to do here for weeks.
It's become much more popular in recent years. But - do yourself a favour and leave Reykjavik behind for the far north of Akureyri and Lake Myvatn. The culture and sights are unique, as are the prices. Suspend your disbelef at the price of a coffee or a beer and just enjoy yourself - you'll probably only come here once.
