Ave price: $352
Centrally located historic hotel perfectly situated for the clubs of Sixth Street and touring the state capitol.
Lively street packed with nightclubs and resturants. Great for sampling Texas blues, rock, punk or folk music. Quite a scene Thu-Fri nights. Look for local character the "Coz of it All" playing an electric guitar on the street while wearing a crown.
3. Barton Springs/Zilker Park
A natural, spring fed pool in the middle of the city? People have been coming here for centuries to cool off in its chilly 65 degree waters.
4. Pennybacker Bridge /Loop 360 Bridge
The view from this bridge over the Lake Austin part of the Colorado River is breathtaking indeed.
Rock to Rockabilly, enjoy some fine Austin acts in a lounge-like atmosphere.
From vintage clothes to western antiques, from Tex-Mex to nightclubs, South Congress has it all. Check out First Thursdays for a street fair atmosphere.
This hands-down favorite Tex-Mex place never disappoints. Delicious enchiladas, tacos, margaritas in a family run restaurant.
Omelettes or "Mag-Mex" breakfasts and unbelievably good bottomless cups of coffee make this a primo breakfast spot. Oh yeah, and they're open 24 hours!
Fans of Austin will recognize the landmark neon sign for this refurbed motel. Located on funky South Congress, it's popular with musicians at the SXSW music show.
10. Waterloo Records and Video
A one-stop shopping Mecca for Texas Music fans. If it was made in Texas, you will find it here, and you can listen to it first, too.
From a permanently displayed Gutenberg bible to the first photograph ever taken, the HRC has a varied and very interesting collection.
Known locally as the "Drag", Guadalupe is a street full of eclectic shops and cheap eats that runs alongside the University of Texas Campus. Great for people watching and inexpensive beer.
Clean, cool, clear spring waters and well marked lanes make this a premium outdoor pool for lap swimming. Also has a family atmosphere and big shade trees within view of Barton Creek.
Another great lookout over Lake Austin. Has a multitude of steps that may leave you breathless. A romatic spot that can leave one breathless for other reasons, too.
The exhibits are good, but even more alluring is the Spanish and Mediterranean-style villa and grounds on which they are located.
