Things To Do

  • Category: Recent trip
  • 1. Heineken Experience

super fun! get three free beers. self-guided tour. lots of picture taking opportunities. takes 2-3 hours depending on what you do inside.

  • 2. Keukenhof Garden

just outside of city. you can arrange within many hotels/tour bus operators to get out there for a reasonable price. tulip season is amazing! it was so gorgeous! i would try to spend a nice chunk of time out there. we went for three hours and really could have used a couple more.

  • 3. Anne Frank Huis

you just kind of have to go. very interesting. very sad.

  • 4. Canal Boat Tour

really nice to see the city from the canals. the "canal bikes" seem like too much work, and are always being pushed aside by the boats. different perspective to see amsterdam from the water.

  • 5. Pancakes

they're good sweet or savory. we ate one everyday! different pancake restaurants throughout the city. i love the pancake bakery near the anne frank huis, or pancake corner near leidseplein.

  • 6. Van Gogh Museum

love van gogh. really enjoyed this museum. i like it better than the rijks.

  • 7. Museumplein

open park surrounded by the "iamsterdam" sign, van gogh, concert hall, rijks...
very laid back. great place to bring a sandwich and hang out for a while.

  • 8. Just Walk Around and Explore

the city has tons of little shops, coffeeshops, bars, and restaurants. loved hanging out in leidseplein drinking a bier, watching the people. really nice to follow a canal, or main street, and just go down some side streets along the way. the dam square/red light district is more seedy and touristy. we likened that area more to the east village in nyc, and the leidseplein area more like the west village.

  • 9. I Love Amsterdam!

this was my second trip, and i plan on going back again and again. it's really easy to get around and if you stay near the center, you really could just walk to all the big attractions. people are super nice, and everyone speaks english. food is delicious. falafel at maoz, the pancakes as mentioned earlier, the waffles too! good shopping. puma and adidas stores. lots of boutiques too. i love it there!
