Folks on the Nashville forum are always asking for restaurant recommendations. I put together this list as an easy reference for those of you visiting Music City in search of good meals. These are all the restaurants that we have come to love and visit regularly.
Great for: Date night, anniversaries, birthdays, business
We love everything about Germantown Cafe, from the quality of the food, to the wonderful views of downtown, to the affordable prices. This restaurant has become our standby choice for romantic evenings out and when friends come to visit.
Great for: Special occasions and big evenings
Margot's is hands down our favorite restaurant in Nashville. Every meal has been wonderful, the staff is always great, and the atmosphere is relaxed. This is our choice for birthday and anniversary-type dinners. It's right in the heart of 5-points, a neighborhood with a number of other restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance of one another.
Great for: Weekend brunch
Marche is a newly opened lunch and casual dining place located at 1000 Main St behind Margot Cafe. It's run by the same people as Margot's, and although the setting is more relaxed, the food is just as wonderful.
Great for: Lunches, days in the park
There are many BBQ joints in Nashville, but Hog Heaven has become our favorite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is excellent! In the nice weather it's great to spend an afternoon in Centennial Park with a sandwich and a frisbee.
Great for: Quick, healthy meals
Calypso is a very inexpensive and easy place for lunch, with locations in the Vanderbilt-oriented area near Centennial Park, near 100-Oaks mall, and now in East Nashville. Some favorites are the black bean nachos , any of the salads, and the iced fruit tea.
Great for: Meals out with friends or family
The Family Wash is located in an old laundrymat in the historic neighborhoods of East Nashville. It has a wonderful local feel, and features musicians on many nights.
Great for: Date night, dinner with friends
Tin Angel has been one of our standby date-night restaurants for the last five years. The food is always great, and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly.
Great for: casual dining, patio weather
The Rosepepper has a lovely patio for the nice weather, and makes some of the best margaritas in Nashville.
One of our favorite places for reasonably priced, delicious ethnic cuisine. Bombay Palace is located near Vanderbilt University at 2912 West End Ave.
Great for: Breakfast/lunch
This is a Nashville standby, and definitely worth a stop during any visit to town. The line seems intimidating, but will actually move pretty quickly. You can send someone up the street to Fido's for great coffee while you wait.
Great for: Blending in with the locals
Bongo Java is a wonderful local coffee company, with three locations in Nashville: East Nashville, Fido cafe in Hillsboro Village, and on Belmont Blvd. at Belmont Univ. All three locations have great coffee drinks, as well as yummy food and snacks.
