Great beaches are nearby, but there are plenty of other ways to occupy your time.

  • 1. Lion Country Safari
    Lion Country Safari, Loxahatchee, Florida

    This place can easily occupy a day! The first part is the actual safari - you stay in your car, guided by a tape, and get amazingly close to the animals. Then at the end of the safari is the park section, which includes a few rides (better for younger children than older) and lots more animals plus informative (and interesting) shows. New from our last visit was the giraffe feeding area and sprinkler park, both of which were very impressive.

  • 2. TooJay's is right for any meal

    This deli is great! The kids' meals were over-the-top impressive and the adult portions are big enough to share. The walk past the bakery when you enter is worthwhile in itself…..and if you eat at the Wellington Mall location, like we did, there's a very interesting playspace in which the kids can jump all over huge breakfast items...

  • 3. Looking for wildlife at Okeeheelee Nature Center
    Okeeheelee Park, West Palm Beach, Florida

    Keep your eyes peeled for an alligator or, at the very least, a few lizards. Walkways are beautifully laid out for a casual stroll and the possibility of seeing creatures.

  • 4. If you don't find animals at the nature center, you're guaranteed to see them at the Palm Beach Zoo!
    Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park, West Palm Beach, Florida

    Baby jaguars and siamangs are just some of the unusual animals you'll find at this zoo. The kids will love the special zoo carousel and the interactive fountain that will keep them cool..
