  • 1. La Langosta Feliz (The Happy Lobster)

A family-owned restaurant. Lovely people. Very hospitable and generous. We mentioned we were celebrating our fifth anniversary and they treated us to a bottle of wine. The seafood is purchased fresh every morning by the owner. Their fresh seafood platter for 550 pesos (roughly 50+ dollars) included a whole lobster, about 4-6 jumbo shrimp, a whole red snapper, and something else I can't remember, plus rice and vegetables. If you order this, don't order anything else. We ordered ceviche as an appetizer, but didn't realize it would be just too much food! A wonderful place. Great experience.

  • 2. Canopy Tours de Los Veranos
Los Veranos Canopy Tour, Puerto Vallarta

We are two 50-somethings and were up for a bit of an adventure. This zip-line tour certainly fit the bill! We had a wonderful time. I was a bit anxious about heights and all, but the amazing staff took such good care of me and anyone else who was nervous. I would go back and do it again tomorrow if I could. The equipment is all good quality, the guides are personable and professional at the same time. I highly recommend this excursion.

  • 3. Playa Las Animas
    Playa Las Animas, Puerto Vallarta

This beautiful beach was one of our favorites in Puerto Vallarta. We took the bus to the end of the line at Boca, then a water taxi. Las Animas was the first stop. We spent several hours there on the beach and swimming. By ordering a couple of drinks and some food, we were able to sit in their chairs and we never felt pressured. They checked in with us to see if we needed anything, but always very gentle. A beautiful day. A beautiful memory.

  • 4. La Dolce Vita

After a week of primarily Mexican food, we were in the mood for something different and Italian was it. We asked for a place that had great pizza and La Dolce Vita certainly did, as well as fabulous pasta and great salad, too. It was our last evening in PV, and we were very happy to spend it at this fun and lively restaurant across from the Malecon.

  • 5. Brasil Restaurant

Definitely not for vegetarians, this meat-lover's dream serves up a prix fixe dinner (slightly less for women than men--never saw that approach before!) that was absolutely satisfying. My husband and I both gave up before trying all 12 or 13 types of meat, which included several cuts of beef, pork, chicken and turkey, but everything we had was delicious. The bacon-wrapped filet melted in our mouths. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
