Puerto Varas Chile - where to eat, sleep, and play

Nice hotel right next to main square, with fantastic views of the lake and beach. A little noisy due to being right on the main road but close to all the restaurants and shopping. Our room had a fantastic view of the lake and also a jacuzzi tub.

A gift store in Puerto Varas with beautiful handknit sweaters, handmade chocolates/truffles (you can watch them making them in the kitchen), Lapis lazuli jewelry, wood carvings, and other Chilean gifts. Store is located on Santa Rosa avenue (#308) right around the corner from the Hotel Licarayen.

Restaurant is located in Puerto Varas at 537 San Pedro. This restaurant was on San Pedro, but down a ways from the main tourist areas (in fact street dead ends on this block). Because of that, not many tourists seemed to be there. This restaurant had excellent Chilean food. My husband has a beef dish that was very good, and I had a fish dish (Corvina with a seafood salsa). The ambience is very pleasant, with interesting artwork on the walls. There is a front deck that you could eat on if good weather. Wine list was good -- I had an excellent chilean sauvignon Blanc - Isla Negra was the vintner. I highly recommend this restaurant based on what I saw of the others -- most of the touristy ones looked cheaper but we found the food wasnt very good.

Beautiful lake that Puerto Varas sits on. You can go to the beach and rent a kayak or just splash around and play in the sand.

Interesting church on a hill overlooking Puerto Varas. It is very imposing from a distance and worth going closer for a few photos. However when we walked right up to it, the metal siding etc. look a little shabby. It was locked so we couldn't go in. But was nice to take some distance shots of.
