Charleston is a beautiful old city known for its Southern charm. Your flight to Charleston will land at Charleston International Airport. This airport is adjacent to the Air Force Base and shares its runways with them. You'll be in the center of town in the North Charleston area. Baggage claim is across from the rental car kiosks. You can rent from Avis, Hertz, National, Thrifty, Dollar, or Enterprise. Directly outside is the pick-up area for taxis, limousines, buses, or shuttles from local hotels.

Getting Around in Charleston

Charleston is actually a fairly easy city to get around. Many neighborhoods will be conducive to walking, especially if you go to old Charleston in and around Rainbow Row. CARTA, the public trolleys, are now free. There are also pedi-cabs and horse-drawn carriages for rent. Or for a more whimsical ride, instead of horses you can ride in a carriage drawn by mules. In addition, there are several taxi companies that serve the Charleston area. And, of course, you can always rent a car. Traffic is a little heavy at times, depending on what time of day you're on the road.
