Hello! I will answer as many questions as I can:

There are lots of activities included at the resort. They have kayaks, windsurfing, snorkeling and catamarans you can use free of charge (you have to take a class to use the catamarans). They also have wave runners, scuba and banana boats, but there is a charge for that. BE SURE to bring a few tubes with you for use in the gulf, pools and lazy river (you can buy them at the resort, but they are really expensive!) Just give the tubes to another family when you leave. There are SO MANY activities at the resort… you will never be bored. Besides water sports, they have bikes, bike tours, archery, shooting, volleyball, soccer… the list goes on!

I would use the $100 credit at the spa if you can. Search "paraiso maya spa pdf" to get a pdf of the spa menu and pricing.

TIP: Walk down to the spa before you book your appointment (It's not far from the Maya-in the shopping area). They have specials posted only at the spa (2 for one treatments, etc), so it's worth the walk over. ALSO, all Maya guests have free unlimited access to the "wet" areas of the spa: Sauna, steam room, hot, warm, cold whirlpools, sunning area. It's a great perk.

We really loved the Japanese restaurant, but it's not romantic…. it will be a great option for you group though! Book this as soon as you can (before you leave if possible). It's a small room and if you have a group you will likely take up a large portion of the cooking/table. Sorry I can't make a recommendation for a romantic meal.

I think they have 2 options for rooms: Standard and Superior, all are junior suites. The difference (I think) is the location of the suites. The suites closest to the gulf are deemed superior. I think they also offer "Family" suites, but I'm not sure on what that entails. We had a standard junior suite on the top floor of building 61 and were very happy with it. The top floors are quieter, because you don't get any noise from above, and we asked for a room facing away from the pool for more quiet. ALSO, corner rooms have a wrap around balcony, which is nice.

I would send an email ahead of time to the hotel with all of your requests and dinner reservations (I sent one about 5 days before arrival). Let them know it is your birthday at that time… and see what they offer. Below is a copy of the email I sent, if that helps. FYI, we got everything we requested! Be sure to check in with your building concierge when you get there, to make any other arrangements you might want.

Hope that helps!

Kathleen

Unfortunately, we don’t have free transportation to Playa del Carmen. There’s a shuttle offered by the taxi union. There is a charge of 50 pesos per person each way. They have different times available.

Since I stayed at the Maya I can't tell you exactly what is off limits to the Lindo guests but I can confirm which inclusions I had.

After checking into our room we went to the concierge in our courtyard about dinner reservations. Between two couples were able to reserve an a-la-carte dinner reservation for each night of our stay. Our bags arrived from the lobby while we reserved dinners.

The concierge provided a free password to connect multiple devices (our tablets, notebooks and telephones) to the WIFI internet service. (I hear that this is extra to other guests, I typically pay $70 - $10/dy when travelling). As a Canadian traveler I purchase a cellular travel pack add-on for voice/data and will say that all the cellular services were better than the WIFI.

I support the responses already posted about the morning/lunch buffet and a-la-carte options specifically for Maya guests. The Maya buffet, poolside closest to the beach, turned away non-Maya guests all day.

I'm unsure if there is a quality-of-service difference for Lindo guests from the staff since all resorts guests intermingle from arrival to departure.

Guests staying at Iberostar Paraiso Maya have several a-la-carte restaurants: El Rancho, Steakhouse, La Marina Seafood, La Geisha Japanese and L`Etoile French Gourmet. Please note that the French gourmet restaurants are only for adults and children over the age of 12 years old. Long pants are required for gentlemen (18 and over) at the gourmet/ French restaurant.

Guests can make dinner reservations with the concierge in their building upon arrival. We also accept making dinner reservations in advance. (Due to hotel policy we only can make up to 3 dinner reservations in advance. The remainder of the dinner reservations can be made with your concierge upon arrival. Thank for your understanding.)

Please make sure you provide full details as the hotel, arrival date, number of people and all of the guests' names in your party. You can see the email on our website.

Thank you!
