Save the Children

Save the Children reaches over 41 million girls and boys worldwide including the United States to ensure that they grow up safe, educated, healthy and better able to attain their rights. Save the Children's emergency, recovery and development programs address both the immediate and long-term needs of children struggling to overcome poverty, which is often exacerbated by war and disaster.

Save the Children works to ensure:

Children are Protected: Save the Children works to protect children from physical and emotional harm when they face disaster, conflict, HIV/AIDS and other risks by providing safe environments.

Children Learn and Develop: Save the Children provides access to basic education and engages adolescents in building the knowledge and skills to successfully transition to adulthood. We promote life-long healthy behaviors through school health and nutrition, increasing sanitation, safe water and medical services which helps keep children in school. In the rural United States, we assist young children with language, social and emotional development helping increase reading skills of children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Children are Healthy and Well-Nourished: We work to improve the health and nutrition of pregnant women, newborns and young children.

Children Thrive in Food-Secure and Economically Viable Households: Save the Children helps families provide for their children during times of acute food shortages by educating them on food production practices to improve food availability and supporting savings and loan programs which improves poor families financial security.

Children Affected by HIV/AIDS are Supported: We protect orphans and vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDS, their families and caregivers by working to slow the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Emergency Response Management: Save the Children works to save lives, provide basic needs and restore facilities essential to the safety, health and welfare of children and families in emergency situations. We focus on strengthening capacity to deliver timely relief to those who need it most.
