BTAT is a highlight of the latest edition of Lonely Planet Brazil guidebook. The company was created by a businessman from Michigan, Rick Paid and a tour-guide from Santarem, Karim Abu Bakr (who used to be a journalist from Russia before that). Rick has a business in Santarem - Zero Impact Brazil, a sawmill that works with leftover wood, bringing in a new value to what the rainforest has to offer. Back in 2003 he purchased a beautiful piece of primary rainforest 80 km away from Satarem, and created there a natural reserve, preventing from the deforestation of that land for a soy field. In 2012 the first tourists visited that land (many Rick's friends were going there before just to hang around). We sa that it was a start of something that can bring a difference not only to tourism in the area, but to the attitude to the environment and local culture. That was the main reason of the creation of Big Tree Adventure Tours. We have supported several journalists and documentary teams from all over the world including the team from National Geographic. We have a wide range of services - from basic tours to fixer's job, organizing events and even transfers - everything to make your journey in Tapajos region comfortable, exciting and extremely entertaining. We work with individual tours and groups up to 40 people. Our tours are well-planned, so that you can get the maximum out of your stay here. And these tours are real Amazonian Adventures. We travel by road, hike in the forest, paddle in canoes and ride local wooden boat or even go down the wind kitesurfing! Tons of white sandy beaces, floodplains, full of wildlife, islands in the middle of the Amazon river, breathtaking landscapes on the roads, tiny historical places and, of course, the magnificent rainforest - that's what we have to show. The natural reserve where we use to take guests is a huge primary rainforest with giant trees, chrystal-clear coldwater stream and many surprises. It's an incredible place for hiking, swimming, making a barbecue and get knowledge about the rainforest. Staying there for a night is quite an experience, listening to the sounds of the Amazon. We have knowledgeable trail guides from a very nice native family that helps us to feelsafe and taken care of. So, you have 766 hectares to have fun, what more? Big Tree Adventure Turs has a professional team and a very flexible way of receiving our guests here in Santarem. There's no way to leave this place disappointed! « less
