Celestun Attractions: What to do & Places to Visit in Celestun
"After 12 years we returned to Celestun to relax and photograph birds. We went to the "official" boat dock by the bridge, choosing the afternoon for the best light on the birds. There were four of us, two of whom were serious photographers. The price was by the boat, and we did not pay extra for t..."he English speaking boat driver (600 MX extra) We don't speak much Spanish, but figured we could point. Our driver was Jose - who when he say our cameras realized what we wanted. I got incredible photos of flamingos. But you need a telephoto of 300 - 600 mm to get closeups, since they are limited on how close they can come to the birds. Also excellent photos of Osprey, Pygmy Kingfisher, and numerous other water birds. Jose went out of his way to give us a great tour. Loved it, will come again.

"Our trip was a combo Mangrove/Flamingo tour. Their were 4 adults in our group. The experience of being out on the water, seeing numerous varieties of birds, some who had migrated as from as far away as Alaska, was amazing. A local professional zoologist/ bird expert friend of ours recommended En..."rique as the guide to have. We were thrilled with his knowledge and expertise. We learned a lot about the local efforts to preserve the Yucatan ecology. We even had the opportunity to swim in a small crystal clear fresh water lagoon, made all the more exciting by the leering resident crocodile at the water's edge. The best time to see thousands of Flamingos here is Dec-Feb, preferably as early as 5am or at dusk.
