We suggest you take the early trip as it makes returning in the dark somewhat easier as you will visually have seen the route. That said, I don’t think it makes a serious difference as our return leg was chaos, written with a laugh. The need to be physically fit is not important as the only difficult part will have people pulling you through the water (at least for our tour). We even suggested this tour to a girl with a broken thumb. If you are looking for a serious kayaking adventure, this is not it. We kayak every tropical place we go, and this was by far the easiest.
