Kawaihae Attractions: What to do & Places to Visit in Kawaihae
"We had the best time, we were warmly welcomed. Free nut tasting galore! There were numerous samples to help ourselves to and they were yummy! There was plenty of coffee and water from a purifier we could help ourselves to. They have thought of everything and was so much more fun and interesting than ..."the Mauna Loa factory we visited earlier in the week. We purchased a lot of packets to take home too.

"We went for the dolphin encounter trip with Captain Bryan and crew member Dan. It was a super spacious sailing boat (website said 6 passengers maximum so I thought it was a smaller boat), and you can sit comfortably either on the front or the back of boat. Both Bryan and Dan are super friendly and h..."elpful.
After sailing along the sea shore for half a hour, we saw a large group of dolphins. My best guess is more than a hundred of them. Captain drove the boat ahead of the dolphins so that we can jump into the water and let the dolphins swimming toward us. It requires good judgement of where the dolphins are heading and we did it right the first time. Good job, Captain! Swimming with dolphins in their own territory are life time experience. You can hear them singing. One of the dolphins even swam to my wife, took a look at her and "talked" to her and then swam away. Dan was swimming with us to keep us safe and the same time help us find the dolphins since dolphins are swimming around...

"Lovely park. We did not walk up to the temple but listened to the audios and followed the narration using the wall murals as guides. We missed the ranger walk. Just looking at the temple and knowing of the death of Kamehameha's cousin gives you goosebumps.
It was so nice to see Hawaiians using the ..."park just across from the heiau for recreation and a picnic. I guess the spirits of the past rest peacefully with the activities of the present.
Glad we stopped for this cultural and historical (the unification of the islands by Kamehameha I) experience.
