"Very different to the other national parks as this contains many unique archaeological sites in spectacular settings To get the best out of a visit book on the ranger tours but be aware they are strenuous and require ladder climbing and some crawling. We also recommend the pictograph trail which tak..."es you go a spectacular panel of ancient pictographs through a scenic rocky canyon which is also quite strenuous with some rock scrambling.

"Absolutely beautiful setting, culturally rich and fascinating, this historic site is definitely one worth seeing if ever traveling through any of the nearby canyon states. The end of April is a perfect time to see it, and getting in free during National Parks week was a bonus. Allow ample time to ex..."plore it if you are interested in history, culture, and archeological wonders. The tours are well worth it. The Rangers are friendly, helpful, and informative . The museum is also very good. Make sure to see the film presentation, which gives a very comprehensive overview of the settlements and how they evolved, prior to actually visiting the individual sites. We spent five hours here and enjoyed it immensely. The town of Cortez, (about 45 minutes away) is worth an overnight stay with good restaurants, interesting shops, and a pleasant small town feel.

"made the loop drive from and back to Cortez. it was a beautiful drive. The ranger at the visitor's center was very friendly and helpful. BEAUTIFUL 2 mile hike around the canyon. Could just sense the spirit of the ancestral puebloans who live there so long ago. "
