Tarangire National Park Attractions: What to do & Places to Visit in Tarangire National Park
"Lots of elephants around! We also saw thomson's gazelle, vervet monkeys, water buck, impala, dik-dik, buffalo, hartebeeste, giraffe, zebra, dwarf mongoose, regular-sized mongoose, olive baboon and load's of birds.
We stayed in the public campsite which after dark became home to wandering impala (..."and even later on some very noisy hyena and lion poking around the tent!).
I would recommend visiting in the wet-season for the stunning landscapes and birds, but the dry season (June - November) for more of a chance to spot large mammals. I would also recommend self-safari-ing as we saw more animals off the beaten track than along the regular safari company tracks. Having said that self-safari-ing is where the park is let down by poor signage and an even poorer road map (but we wouldn't have seen half of the animals listed above if we hadn't taken a few wrong turns along the way!).
There are also a ridiculous amount of tsetse fly, particularly on the grade "B" roads around the poacher...

"We heard Tarangire often gets passed up on many Tanzanian safari trips. While it may not have the density of Ngorogoro or the wild plains of the Serengetti, Tarangire offers an amazing encounter with elephants, giraffe, and birds of all types. If you have even an extra day, make sure to find a way t..."o squeeze in a trip

"My husband and I just returned from a terrific 8 day safari with Green Africa Tours—May 1st to May 8th . Our guide was Mark was terrific. Very nice, knowledgeable and a great game spotter. We saw the following'
54 lions total in 3 different parks -Tarangire, Serengeti, and Nrongoro Crater
3 leopar..."ds--Serengeti
20 plus elephants--Tarangire and Nrongoro Crater
1 black rhino--Nrongoro Crater
hundreds of cape bufallos
thousands of wildebeest
Many giraffes, ostrich, storks, eagles, shore birds, hippos, hyena, jackals impala, gazelles and many spectacular birds.
And this was not in the really high season. I was a little worried that we would not see that much, but obviously we did. This Tanzania trip was so much better than Kenya or Botswana which I have visited before.
Green Africa Tours was terrific. Ask for Mark-- a great guide nice vehicle. I recommend the company and I will come back through the same company.
