- koabugHonolulu, HI1,622 contributionsnice exhibit of the area. The gift shop offered some lovely jams and wraps for take out since the restaurant didn't accept people not staying at the lodge to dine in due to limited staff. the boardwalk trail is near the lodge and it is an easy trail to see cool fungi and other temperate rainforest plant life.Written September 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alan G5 contributionsHad a great time with a very helpful guide. As a family with little kayak experience it really helped to be taken through all of the procedures and we felt secure in what we were doing at all times. There is something about being that close to the water that makes for a special experience of the landscape and GBSK did a great job guiding us out and back and pointing out all the wildlife on the way. And we mostly had the place to ourselves. Highly recommend thisWritten September 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fred158Wenatchee, WA9 contributionsNatalie was a first rate guide. She went out of her way to accommodate the unique needs of our group. She was patient with the beginners in our group and shared some of her tricks with the more experienced. She took us to places that were breath taking in beauty. I would highly recommend a river fishing trip with Natalie in the backwoods of Alaska.Written February 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy SCullman, AL32 contributionsHonestly, my husband and I can't imagine visiting Alaska and not going to Gustavus for a day on The Taz. Captain Tod provides a unique experience where he finds the whales, and then he turns off the boat and lets you watch and experience the whales up close. He is so knowledgeable about the whales that he can posiiton the boat to provide the best whale watching experience possible. On our trip in July, we had another incredible day with Tod on The Taz. Highly recommend!Written August 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BerkeleyLizBerkeley13 contributionsWe were visiting Gustavus and my brother and his family offered to treat me to a massage for my birthday. Our inn keeper pointed us toward Robin's Song. I went into the appointment with only an expectation of another soothing but not very effectual massage, but in the course of an hour the owner, Jen Landry, had found, diagnosed and worked away two chronic issues I have had, one with a muscle strain in my neck and the other in my lower back. She practices a combination of Thai and Ashiatsu body work that stretches and applies pressure to your muscles in a way that felt to me like yoga on steroids! I came away from the session with mush less pain and a much happier outlook on life! After pushing your body through bouncy whale watching excursions, grueling hikes and cramped kayaking trips on Glacier Bay, I would highly recommend a session at Robin's Song to cure all that ails you.Written July 9, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sierrastewAlbuquerque, New Mexico84 contributionsThe Sea Wolf Glacier Bay trip is designed for people who want to be active (our group was likely more fit than others, with all others having substantial kayaking experience). There was kayaking the first afternoon and last morning; then a kayak (2-3 hours) and a walk every day betweeen. One kayak outing was close to 5 miles (with about a 1/2 hour stroll near the end. There are two naturalists on board; both were very well informed and informative.
The cabins all have bunk beds. The upper bunk has only about 30" of head room. The bunks in the rooms on the main deck (including ours) are against a blank wall (at least two rooms on the upper deck have the bunk against a wall with a porthole). I used the upper bunk but had extreme anxiety in the middle of the first night; from then I, slept on a sofa in the salon. The other travelers used their bunks.Written August 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trip was incredible, we were lucky with the weather, hardly any rain and calm water. The scenery in Glacier Bay is truly breathtaking. Alida and Katy were awesome guides! They put so much effort into everything and we’re a perfect balance of providing info on animals and plants, etc and letting us enjoy the beautiful peace of the place. They also worked so hard on setting up camp and making delicious meals. All the gear was great and the whole expedition very well setup and executed. We had lovely company from one other person on the trip. I definitely recommend Spirit Walker anyone coming to Alaska looking to paddle in Glacier BayWritten August 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - melissa wCincinnati, OH1,058 contributionsThis day cruise was a highlight of our 30 days in Alaska. The National Park Ranger that narrated the day was phenomenal. We saw almost everything on this tour: costal brown bear, pods of orca whales, sea lions, sea otters, mountain goat, puffin birds. The scenery is gorgeous. The boat was very comfortable and food was decent, the crew was friendly and helpful as well.Written October 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rutli36Stockton, CA1 contributionIf you are looking for a week full of memorable experiences, do not hesitate to book your fishing vacation package with Alaskan Anglers in Gustavus. When the week began, I wasn't sure what to expect, but they made us feel right at home as soon as they picked us up from the airport. Their chef, Tim, was amazing and provided a true variety of awesome dishes all week. Then under the expert guidance of our Captain Neal (who was fantastic) we had some of the best fishing I have ever enjoyed. We caught halibut, lingcod, sablefish, salmon, flounder and even a salmon shark. Finally, as a bonus, we went home with 50lbs of great tasting, nutrient rich fish fillets. I ended up enjoying the week so much, I wish I could go again.Written August 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrea KFort Collins, CO21 contributionsJan took us along the Icy Straight and it was spectacular! He mentioned that he hasn't seen them for a few days so he was concerned about what we would see that day. We ended up seeing a bunch of Humpback whales! they all swam around the coast line and like some of the other reviewers mentioned he would turn the engine off to avoid spooking them and we would just watch for them to come up. We almost saw one breach, he came out of the water and made this extremely loud noise, it was awesome. Even Jan was shocked by that! Awesome experience.Written July 31, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- RRD11Portland, Oregon8 contributionsThis was by far a highlight of our AK trip. We had such a great time. We caught a bunch of salmon, and on our way back in, my husband caught the one and only halibut. Mike was a great guide. He was patient, knew where to go and didn't disappoint. I would love to go again and if we do, we'll absolutely use Glacier Bay Sportfishing.Written November 7, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
