Come visit the Anna Ranch Heritage Center which offers insight to the rich history of ranching and the paniolo on the Big Island. The lush green hills of Waimea offer a beautiful back drop to the unique story of Anna Leialoha Lindsey Perry-Fiske who was known as the “First Lady of Ranching“ in Hawaii. As one of Hawaii’s finest Pa’u riders, an award winning jockey and one who could throw amazing social events to raise funds for the community, Anna’s story will leave you amazed and inspired. Born in 1900 and living to the age of 95, Anna lived a long exciting life. Prior to her death she placed her ranch in a trust so that the history of ranching in Hawaii would be shared with future generations.Listed on both the National and State registers of historic places, the ranch is a one of a kind attraction. Visitors may tour the spectacular and expansive gardens as well as the fourteen room historic ranch house with a treasure trove of Hawaiian koa furnishings, artifacts and fine millinery.

"I spent the afternoon at the beach with my husband and five month old son. It was a beautiful view and a calm beach.the water was calm enough that I was able to bring my son in without him getting wet in the face. we brought equipment for snorkeling because we read that there were sea turtles in the..." area. Unfortunately the water was murky enough that we were not able to see much at all.there were a number of people camping on the park grounds. There are bathrooms with running water which is really nice. There were not a lot of other people there which we enjoyed. It's a bit of a drive from Kailua Kona but worth it if you want a laid-back afternoon.

"We stopped to see this statue while visiting the North Kohala coast. We took several pictures of it and the beautiful old tree of to its right. What a quaint little town. Very restful scenic day for us"
"We have always wanted to hike down and have a picnic on the black sand beach at Waipio Valley. We began our hike down from the Look Out point using the roughly paved switchback road to the bottom. The road is used by locals and tours so you have to frequently step to the side of the road as motorc..."ycles, trucks and vans drive by. It is quite steep and found the hike back up a little bit challenging as it was very humid that day. Make sure you bring a bottle or two of water with you (and carry it out as there are no garbage cans). Turn right when you reach the bottom and walk down the tree lined dirt and gravel road. You will pass a few of the locals houses, a rusting hull of a boat, and watch out for feral cats and horses. We saw one small brown horse in the bushes munching away on vegetation. About 15 minute walk you will approach the beginning of the black sand beach. There is parking here as well under the large conifer trees which is used by the locals for picnics and campfires...
