Take a guided educational tour and explore the gorge that was eroded 40 feet below the pre-flood terrain by the 2002 flood event, when flood waters went over the Canyon Lake Spillway for the first time in its history. This tragic event of nature "unearthed" a true Hill Country treasure which you can now experience firsthand with a trained guide. During your 3-hour tour, you will walk along an exposed fault zone, identify fossils, explore the Early Cretaceous limestone formations that were deposited over 110 million years ago, photograph dinosaur footprints, and even follow aquifer waters as they course through the Gorge as springs, channels and waterfalls. Tours available weekdays and weekends, only $10 per person.

"If you are close to this museum it is worth the trip. It is an amazing unveiling of 110 million year old dinosaur footprints in mass. I have never seen such a clear visual of history. Under a large steel pole-barn are at least 60 dinosaur footprints that reveal the path of these giants. Great field ..."trip!! It is a short trip, might take only an hour to visit, but worth it for sure!

"I absolutely enjoyed this guided tour of the newly formed gorge. I went with a group of teachers on this 2-3 hour hike across 108 million year old terrain that was unveiled after the flooding in 2002. It is beautiful. I highly suggest you bring a video camera to enjoy the views and sounds of the wa..."ter. The fossils are astounding and the naturalists are very knowledgable. You don't have to be in great shape to do this tour, but you need to be sure-footed as you walk down some steep stoned paths. Awesome!!

"Canyon Lake Dam has a viewing park that shouldn't be missed. You can walk out on the Dam and catch views of people fishing, walking, and just enjoying Canyon Lake. There is a information center just up the hill from the parking area, but we didn't go there. Met several folks also enjoying the vie..."ws from on top of the Dam. Next time I go, I will take the grandchildren--we've been camping on FM 306 many times, but I've never taken them to see the Dam. You can picnic, walk down to the lake, jog, swim, dive, or just soak in the scenery. I understand the small-mouth bass like to hang out just below the Dam.
