I can't believe I have never been there until now, since I have enjoyed seeing a number of other noteworthy gardens such as the Hunting..."ton Gardens in San Marino, CA., Keukenhof in Holland, etc. And to think that the Longwood Gardens are less than a 3 hour drive from my house! I have to say that this place really beat them all! The 20 rooms in the Conservatory are filled with every type of flower imaginable, and they are all first rate specimens. The surrounding acreage is expertly designed, and in tip top condition. We didn't see a weed anywhere, or a brown spot on a leaf. I cannot recommend this tourist attraction highly enough. Since it is immense, there is a lot of walking involved, so be sure to wear your walking shoes. Allow a whole day to see it all. Lunch at the cafeteria was my best meal of the 7 restaurant ...   "Fabulous! Arrive early to beat the crowd. It took the 2 of us about 4 hours to circle around the entire property at a leisurely pace. We finished at 1:30 and the crowds were streaming in. I know there are many more paths to be discovered so I look forward to our next visit. It would have been great ..."to stroll along with a glass of wine, but this is not allowed inside the gate :( so next time we'll bring a basket lunch with wine & cheese for the picnic area outside the gate. The website says there are drinking fountains in various locations and bottled water for sale but I didn't see either so put a bottle of water in your bag, especially if you have little kids with you! It's a lot of walking and I can only imagine how thirsty we would have been on a very hot day! The gift shop is lovely and offers a vast selection of high quality lotions, soaps, books, garden supplies and more! All the employees & volunteers are extremely friendly and ready to help!
