Chase "n" Thyme Island Journeys - More than a tour, a journey through the island from early settlement to the present day and all the wonderful things in between. Come with your hosts Janine and Peter Phillipps on an entertaining and informal tour of Lord Howe Island's more interesting nooks and crannies! Janine can trace her origins through five generations to Nathan Chase Thompson who settled on the island in the 1850's. Peter was the island's postmaster for nearly ten years, he has had a number of the photos published in various articles as well as writing a book and producing two DVDs on Lord Howe Island's history. Think you know the island? After our tour you will know Lord Howe Island! You will learn more in a morning with us than you would if you spent a week searching things out for yourself. We get you "under the skin" of the Island, the "nuts and Bolts". There is more to this small island out in the South Pacific than first meets the eye, and you will have a way better holiday for the knowledge you gain! All Corners of the Island Tour! "This beach is lovely for safe swimming. The water is beautiful and clear being a lagoon. Kayaks can be hired to explore. Trips on glass bottomed boats or diving and snorkelling occur from here."
"Enjoyed this 3 hour tour immensely and regret not doing it ealier in our stay.
Peter is very informative and entertaining and knows the island backwards.
He is enthusiastic and fun to listen to and the lovely morning tea was very welcome.
This is a "must do" trip for everyone visiting LHI, you wo..."n't get any better information anywhere else on the island.

"Not for the faint of heart, or wise of brain. This is a serious trek, with solid uphill walking/climbing over 4 - 5 hours. There's some high areas close to long drops, but plenty safe enough with rope to hold on to. It's fine for anyone of reasonable fitness and agility. Be prepared, if you fall beh..."ind, you will have to remain in place until the group returns, possibly for some hours. The whole trek takes 8 - 9 hours all up, and the track isn't always clear to see (you can only do it with a guide). The view and vegetation at the top makes it worth the effort.
If you're there at the right time of year, the guide can call the petrels to fly to the ground, and you can pick them up and have a pat - they have no fear of people.
Ir you're physically up to it, do it.
