NMAC is the only full-time, year-round, independent institution devoted to the display, preservation and study of (antique) American woven coverlets. The Museum is open seven days a week. Each visitor is given a personal tour.Currently, the (400-plus) collection includes coverlets made between 1771 and 1889. Exhibitions change periodically. Generally there are about 50 coverlets on display along with "period" beds and bedding, and spinning and weaving equipment including looms and a (rare) Jacquard head. We are located in a former Common School building (dating to 1859) in the historic district of downtown Bedford, PA.

"This is a very worthwhile experience . Each station has a well-researched re-enactor who can explain the conditions, knowledge, technology advances, and general conditions of the person that they represent. We were totally captivated by these extremely knowledgable folks who have broadened my unders..."tanding of the horrific days of the Civil War. There are also medical, artistry and crafts that are demonstrated with great care and professionalism. It has something for every age, so it is a very worthwhile day. There was a battle re-enactment the day we were there, where strategy and the technolgy to bring this about was made clear. You have to leave such an experience a better informed individual.

"A self-guided tour through some scenic areas of Bedford County. Some of the bridges can be driven over, others are not drivable. On our tour we took a side trip to Gravity Hill (like Spook Hill in Florida) and visited the Coffee Pot near the fair grounds in Bedford. During your drive; look for the 1..."930s style gas station in Bedford.

"We've seen many of the Vermont bridges and found these so much easier to locate. Some could not be driven across but each one was unique. The historic Bedford town was so interesting. Hadn't realized this was the location of the Whiskey Rebellion and the headquarters for President Washington is stil..."l there. Also an unusual school, especially for that time. Their courthouse is still in use and the architectural structure is amazing, both inside and out. There was also an area known as Old Bedford that had many of the original buildings of the 1700s but we didn't stay long as there were four busloads of school children on a field trip. Would love to return at another time as they have demonstrations of life during that time period.
