Facing Telford Terrace is a quaisi Victorian sunken garden, erected to celebrate the twinning of Waltrop and Herne Bay. The sundial on the seaward side is a gift from Waltrop, designed by the burgermeister Herr Jochen Mungner. In the centre of the garden is a Portland stone fountain given to the town in 1888 by London Alderman Col. Horatio Davies, who became Lord Mayor of London. (This fountain was originally located near the clock tower).

"Took my nan out for some lunch, with my wife and two young chidren! She just wanted a snack so stumbled across Mackaris's as a good compromise. Last time I went to the Bandstand in Herne Bay it was a bar. I was told it was a coffee shop for a good few years since. Good simple concepts on offer such ..."as sandwiches, Pannini's, Jackets all of which were reasonably priced, good quality ingredients used and big portions.
They had a whole menu for different Pancakes, so varied that I hav'nt seen since I visited the States.
The cost of drinks- £2.50!! - for a bottled coke pushed the final bill up but overall we was'nt dissapointed as the qualitry of food and atmosphear was great.
There was a slight discrepency with the Bill payment, which the owner sincerly apologies and came back 10 mins later with a HUGE Ice Cream Sundae for my son. So Kudos for that. Will definetley be returning.

"We visited here on Friday evening and were made very welcome by Trevor and Penny. Small venue but great place for quiet chat, real ale and good company. Penny offers real northern hospitality with freebie extras and they both care for their customers and want them to enjoy their time with them.
L..."arge range of real ales, local snacks and dogs welcome too. Alternative beverages for non ale drinkers. Apple juice was gorgeous. Very clean and tidy. Pork pies made locally looked delicious. They really want to promote local products and are doing a good job.
Although I am not a pub person, this was a place I felt relaxed and comfortable. Husband and daughter enjoyed real ales. Would recommend this to all as very welcoming venue with good conversation and ambience.

"Found this place that has recently opened in the bay just around the corner from me. What a great idea, a real ale house that serves propper beer and cider and keeps them well! And not a chav a or pikey in sight! The beer and ciders on offer change regularly and they even give you a loyalty card ..."for a free pint on your 5th visit.
Proper beer at a good price, and not a Fosters or Stella badge in sight! What a great addition to Herne Bay
