  "Since I am a big Andy Griffith fan, we stopped in Mt Airy on our way to another destination. We arrived later in the day so wasn't able to see a lot. One place we wanted to see was Wally's Gas Station. We got there at 4 PM which is when it was suppose to close, but the lady in the station was so swe..."et. She stayed and made us welcome. She told us stories about the TV show and about how nice "Thelma Lou" from the show, who now lives in Mt Airy, is and how she hugs everyone. They have a couple of squad cars that you can take tours in, and beside the gas station is a replica of the Sheriff's office/court house. One of the squad car drivers pulled the car up in front of it so that we could take a picture of the court house and car together (Keep in mind this was after they were supposed to be closed). He then invited us in and when we asked for a wine tasting, escorted us , chatting and joking in the most charming way p..."ossible! He sat us at the bar, introduced us to Liz, our pourer and we enjoyed some delicious wines! After a while we decided to order a light lunch from their deli counter. I had the chicken quesadillas and my friend ordered a BLT. The food was fantastic!!! My quesadillas were filled to the brim with chicken, sauteed onions and peppers and some delicious cheeses. More than enough for two people! My friends BLT was equally delicious. We ended up buying half a case of wine, and a delicious beer.
