Grandfather Mountain’s pristine scenery and sweeping vistas rejuvenate mind and spirit. At an elevation of 5,946 feet, Grandfather is recognized as one of the world’s most diverse nature preserves. Be exhilarated by the altitude and panoramic views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge; stand eye-to-eye with bears, cougars and otters in natural habitats. Dine in the restaurant or find a scenic picnic spot, browse the nature museum, wander the trails, go behind the scenes of the animal habitats, visit with knowledgeable naturalists, and stop for a treat at the fudge shop. Fill your day with family memories at place where wonders never cease.

"We spent the better part of a day at Grandfather mountain. It was one of the highlights of our trip to the area. Although the admission is $18 per adult, I thought it was worth it. The literal high point is the Mile High swinging bridge. Pretty cool engineering and unbeatable view. We did the moder..."atly strenuous hike up from the BlackRock parking lot and enjoyed it. If you dont want to hike, you can drive all the way to the top. The price of admission includes an informational CD that tells about the sites on the way up and down the mountain with nice music. The nature center is worth a stop, as well as the small animal sanctuary. We also enjoyed a second lower elevation relatively easy hike on the mountain. Would love to visit again.

"This is one of the most beautiful places on the entire east coast, so nice I moved here. Now it is too crowded on weekends in the fall which is why I would now rather that you not come in spite of the outstanding review."
"As it is in Heaven is the best way to describe Grandfather Mountain. We spent most of the day there, had our picnic lunch on top of the mountain, loved the swinging ( humming ) bridge, crossed the bridge and climbed the rock to see the view. We really enjoyed the CD they give out your own personal t..."our guide. We couldnt get over all the rock formations, how you can see so far. We even found a path crossed over a small wooden bridge, climbed over a rock and the wonderfull views again. We did get to see the eagles and otters, the bears were asleep out side. We heard turkeys up in the woods. We enjoyed the nature center very much and we also stopped to get a piece of fudge for lunch. Grandfather Moutain is worth the $18. You will enjoy and be amazed!
