"Had to opportunity to revisit a childhood adventure as an adult to gain a better appreciation and I took advantage of it. This Park and the views are breathtaking. Unfortunately, when I went, the elevator was out of service, so my 73 year old father and I climbed over 250 stairs (and when you go up,..." you must come down). It was a leisure climb and well worth it, but would've been nicer if there were Rangers stationed along the stairs, as opposed to chit chatting at the base of the mountain, under these extreme circumstances. In addition, just to provide a little background on the park, the history of the various attractions and wildlife, place a Ranger at Chimney Rock and Exclamation Pointe (for those who make it to the top). The cafe' was a welcomed treat and nice place for a refreshing scoop of ice cream or light snack and souvenirs.

"The views were beautiful. We loved the elevator to the top. We were disappointed that the hickory nut falls trail down to the waterfall was closed. That is our favorite part. It seems like every time we go something is closed, but the discounts because of closures are great. It is very clean and all..." of the stair cases and trails are well kept and safe.

"I have taken my girls to Chimney Rock at least twice a year for the past 5 years. It may be a 3 hr drive, but t is so worth it once we get there. They have now completed the renovations and the elevator is working again as of 2012. The falls on the lower trail is wheere some scenes from the Last of ..."the Mohicans was shot. The waterfall is not much to speak of last year, but the water that did come down was Ice cold.
Bring a picnic basket for food after you hike or shoot down to Lake Lure after for some great dining on the lake.
