Near the Pont-du-Gard, in the heart of Provence, an original monument recommended by guidebooks. Nice walk in the Mediterranean forest. Ancient troglodyte monastery dug by ermits andmonks. Vestiges of medieval fortifications. The top of the hill, above the Rhône, offers a wonderful view on Provence.

"Finding this place was not easy! You need to watch out of the signs which are quite small. Heading into Beauclaire, you need to go around the roundabout to the other side of the road and look for the sign on the right.
The Abbeye is a wonderful experience. There were no hordes of people, shouting a..."t each other.... it was peaceful .. Imagining the actual time that humans had been there and their uses of this place is possible as you walk through. Climbing up , onto the terrace, where a castle had once been, is a real experience as you look right out across the whole Rhone Valley. We , with binoculars , could see down to Avignon and the Cathedrale des Papes.
A very worthwhile experience as it has not been exploited.....

"came here a few days ago, great experience! Lovely views over surrounding area, and really interesting abbey. Quiet and relaxed. Try turning left at the top of the path (away from the abbey) for an alternate walk up the hill next to it, even higher and better views! (and free if you're not too bothe..."red about the abbey itself!

"The troglodyte medieval abbey church can be reached on foot, about 15 minutes walk from the parking space. Built into the rock, it is a most unusual site. Good also for children who ususally love the caves."
