Just a short drive from the center of picturesque New Paltz, the DM Weil Gallery offers the look and vibe of an exclusive Soho style exhibition space, but with the majestic Shawangunk mountains as a backdrop. While the art on the walls -- the eye-popping abstract creations of acclaimed painter DM Weil -- has been praised by critics and collectors alike, the gallery's mission statement remains, "Why Can't Fine Art Be Fun?" « less

In 1678, a small band of French-speaking Huguenots set out to create a place of their own. They named that community New Paltz. Today, six-acre this National Historic Landmark District preserves their charming stone houses, all of which are open to the public. Central to the site is the DuBois Fort Visitor Center, built in 1705. Today it houses exhibition galleries, a Museum Shop and offers a shady spot to sit and enjoy. Grounds open and special programs offered year-round. Walk-in guided tours offered May through October every day except Wednesday. Also offered on weekends in November and December. « less
