Thomas Hart Benton's life is present in both his home and his paintings, and both are preserved at Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site. A trip to the home and studio of the renowned painter, sculptor, lecturer and writer offers a glimpse into how the talented Benton lived and worked. Benton converted half of the carriage house into his art studio, which remains as he left it. Visitors can still see coffee cans full of paintbrushes, numerous paints, and a stretched canvas waiting to be transformed into another of his masterpieces. Thomas Hart Benton died in his studio in 1975.

Steamboat Arabia Museum: When the Steamboat Arabia sank in 1856 some said she was loaded with gold...others said fine china. What was actually discovered will amaze you!
"I have been to a "dine in and a movie" theater before, but nothing like this - one of the best experiences I've had.
I stopped in to see Star Trek and have dinner. The facilities were extremely comfortable with big comfy chairs that were spaced out well enough to ensure you didn't feel crammed i..."n like sardines. The servers were very helpful and friendly.
What really made the theater stand-out was the quality of the food and the atmosphere. First, the food was quite good and a step above the regular fare. Often these dine-in theaters are content to give you the bare minimum with the attitude that providing a burger, in and of itself, made it a good dining experience. I had a very good adult milkshake, very well seasoned fries, and a great pizza. The selection was great and ensured that whatever your palet you would be well served. Second, the atmosphere made the theater a treat. Instead of the usual previews the theater showed old commercials by William Shatner, star trek ...

"For this out-of-towner attending a convention, the KC Barbeque Tour proved to be the most memorable and savory part of the entire trip, and I only found it by accident via a flyer in the lobby of my hotel. For four hours on an absolutely idyllic spring day we were taken to four different BBQ joints...", the institutional Arthur Bryant's and Gates, and the lesser known LC's and the Woodyard, by Karl and Bethanie Schemel. Karl did the driving (in a 16-person van) and Bethanie did most of the talking, not only about the history of BBQ in Kansas City, but all the local landmarks Karl arranged to pass en route. It was all-you can-eat (so come hungry) but at a leisurely enough pace that your stomach had time to regroup before the next "course" featuring more of KC's most endearing contribution to American culinary culture. Had I been left to my own devices, I would have eaten at just one place and that would have been the extent of my introduction to barbeque, KC style. But Karl and Bethanie ma...

"Not a motor cycle guy by any means, but the opportunity to see how they make these machines was too good to miss. It's a factory first and foremost rather than a tourist attraction so it's a little off the beaten track (but not too far). I was a little uncertain whether my GPS knew where to take me...." When we got there we found that a free tour had just started and we just joined on. It starts with an introductory video before you get your safety glasses and headset. This allows you to hear the guide over the noise in the factory. A first class approach as I have done factory tours where you struggle to hear what the guide is saying. We were then led right through the factory while the guide explained key stages of the construction process from sheet metal to the finished article.
I found it really interesting and far more than I expected for nothing (although they got their money out of me for souvenirs in the shop). If you are a real fan then you may want the fuller tour which comes a...
