"So I wasn't here for a long time and didn't get to fully experience everything Davis Bayou had to offer, but here's a few pieces of advice for fellow travelers:
First, stay on the beaten path and know how to navigate in the forest. Some of the forest trails are not very well maintained and you m..."ay do as I did and get very, very lost. If you're not comfortable with navigating yourself, you may want to only seek out the boardwalked trails.
Second, bring bug spray! I don't think I've ever seen so many bugs in my life!
Third, bring a camera. Although buggy, and although I got lost, there are some very cool things to be seen in this park. Because it's not used much, you have a better chance at encountering some of the local wildlife if you stay very quiet than you might at other places. There are a few alligators in the marshes as well, which is always a treat for those who have never seen them.

"Do you like art? Do you like sealife? If you answered yes to either of these, you should strongly consider visiting the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
Walter Anderson is the Coast's own Picasso. A little (or a lot) off kilter and one of the sons in a family of artists, Anderson would row out t..."o local Horn Island and stay out there by himself for weeks at a time observing and sketching the wildlife. The museum itself is small, and you'll probably spend no more than an hour in here. Watch the video they play - it's very informative and gives you a lot more appreciation and understanding for the works you're about to see and the man behind them. There are some other artists featured - when I went, one of Anderson's descendants who adopted his ancestor's distinctive style was showcased side-by-side with similar paintings with Anderson.
If you lack the time or mone...

"We went here for the purpose of camping near the beach. I don't know if they even take reservations ahead of time. We were going memorial weekend and were concerned about getting a spot and got the run around on the phone so we decided to "wing it". Even memorial weekend, there were plenty of spots ..."so don't be concerned about getting one. All sites are RV or tent camping with electric hook ups (cost was around $20). We did tent camping. The bathrooms were actually not bad at all. On the backside of the bathrooms are showers. They're family showers so you can go in with whoever you're camping with. Definitely bring flip flops! We brought our bikes and went riding around. They have some pretty homes to look at and a pier, as well as, the bayou area with the Gator. We did see it doing it's mating call! Also, near the bridge on the rocks were tons of crabs! Bugs everywhere and very harrassing so bring ample spray!! Lastly, they have raccoons running about (as most campsites do) so make sur...
